“Love Actually” star Jill Freud has passed away at the age of 98. Also known as Jill Raymond, she had a long career as both an actor and theater director in the United Kingdom before she passed away on the night of November 23, 2025.

Jill Freud ‘Has Taken Her Final Bow’

Jill is probably best known for portraying Pat the Housekeeper at Downing Street in the popular romantic comedy film ”Love Actually,” but her filmography stretches back to the late 1940s. In total she has more than 30 screen credits to her name.

She also worked as a producer and theater director for many years, as well as being the inspiration behind one of the characters from C. S. Lewis’ “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.”

Announcing the news on Instagram, Jill’s daughter Emma Freud detailed the last moments her family spent with Jill before her death. She also shared numerous images and videos of her mother from various stages of her life. “My beautiful 98-year-old mum has taken her final bow,” Emma revealed.

“After a loving evening – where we knew she was on her way – surrounded by children, grandchildren and pizza, she told us all to [expletive] off so she could go to sleep. And then she never woke up. Her final words were ‘I love you.’”

Jill Freud Had a Fascinating Life

In the same social media post, Emma provided more information about her mother and the fascinating life she led. While still a young child during the Second World War, she was evacuated from her family home and lived with author C. S. Lewis for several years.

“As a child she was evacuated to Oxford and ended up living with CS Lewis for three years,” Emma writes. “He based the character of Lucy in ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ on her.”

Emma also explained the work Jill had done in entertainment, writing,

“She became an actress/producer and ran two rep theatre companies in Suffolk for 30 years – employing 100’s of actors who loved her for her passion, her care, her shepherd’s pie, her devotion to regional theatre and her commitment to actor’s rights.”

Emma added, “She had the same lunch every day – a glass of red wine and a packet of crisps, and during Covid, aged 93, locked up with 3 other Freud gals, she took part in a tap class every morning.”

She concluded the post by outlining the family that Jill leaves behind. “She was 98, mother of 5, grandmother of 17, great grandmother of 7,” Emma writes. “She was feisty, outrageous, kind, loving and mischievous. Lucky old heaven getting such a dazzling newcomer.”
