Macaulay Culkin Shares His Brilliant Idea for Another ‘Home Alone’ Sequel

Macaulay Culkin

Macaulay Culkin might have just cracked the code on how to bring “Home Alone” back without making fans roll their eyes. And any time Kevin McCallister himself hints at coming back, the internet collectively stops what it’s doing.

During his live show, “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin,” on Sunday, November 22, 2025, the actor finally opened up about his thoughts on stepping back into the franchise, according to People.

And spoiler alert: he’s not totally slamming the door shut. Yep, you read that right; Culkin is open to a Kevin return.

A Quick Franchise Recap

Culkin, of course, starred in the original “Home Alone” in 1990; which earned him a Golden Globe nomination and cemented his spot in holiday-movie history. And fans are still appreciating the storytelling of “Home Alone,” 35 years later.

Culkin also came back for “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” in 1992. But after that, the franchise went in a whole new direction.

“Home Alone 3” arrived in 1997, “Home Alone 4” followed in 2002, and after a long 10-year break, “Home Alone: The Holiday Heist” popped up in 2012, each with a brand-new cast and storyline. Then Disney+ made a reboot with “Home Sweet Home Alone” in 2021.

Cute idea, but Culkin didn’t return after that second film. And that’s exactly why fans probably took notice when he said he might be open to something new.

The best part? He already has a pitch, and honestly, it’s kind of brilliant.

His ‘Not Completely Allergic’ Return

When asked about stepping back into the “Home Alone” universe, Culkin said, “I wouldn’t be completely allergic to it, [but] it would have to be just right,” (People). And it seems like he’s already put some thought into what “just right” looks like.

“I kind of had this idea… I’m either a widower or a divorcee,” he continued. “I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out.”

Move over bumbling burglars; because this twist flips the entire formula. Instead of Kevin fending off the Wet Bandits, a.k.a. Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), we’d see Culkin as the parent getting shut out.

“[My son] won’t let me in,” he said, explaining that instead of robbers trying to break into the house, “he’s the one setting traps for me.” Tell me that wouldn’t be the most chaotic, hilarious, full-circle moment the franchise has ever delivered.

A Heartfelt Twist on the Chaos

But it’s not just slapstick comedy and paint cans to the face. Culkin explained that “The house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship… [a] ‘get let back into his heart’ kind of deal. That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing.”

It seems like he’s aiming for the sweet spot between nostalgia and something genuinely meaningful. Something that reflects where Kevin McCallister might actually be now. A stressed-out dad trying (and maybe failing) to keep up. A kid who’s frustrated. A relationship that needs repairing. And traps. Lots of traps.

Let’s be real: fans would absolutely show up for this. It feels familiar but fresh and chaotic but heartfelt. Very in line with what made the first two movies work in the first place. If a “Home Alone” sequel ever needed a solid hook, this is it.

Now all we need is a studio exec to hear his pitch and say, “Yep, greenlight it.” Until then, we’ll just be over here imagining Macaulay Culkin dodging glitter bombs and holiday movie chaos… but, you know, in a wholesome father-son way.
