Madonna and Guy Ritchie have reunited for the first time in 17 years after their infamous divorce battle.

The American singer, 57, was married to the British director, also 57, from 2000 until 2008.

In that time, they welcomed son Rocco, also adopting son David together as well.

However soon after their split, the pair became embroiled in a custody battle after their eldest son refused to return to the US and begged to stay in the UK with his father.

The court eventually granted his request, with Madonna revealing earlier this year that she ‘contemplated suicide’ at the time.

She once also admitted feeling ‘incarcerated’ during their marriage, while Guy said their union had been a ‘soap opera’.

Despite their past tension, the former couple have reunited this week to support Rocco, now 25.

In a photo posted to Rocco’s Instagram account, Madonna and Guy posed on either side of their son at his exhibition Talk is Cheap, which was held at a studio warehouse in Soho.

Standing in front of two of Rocco’s artworks, the trio all held back smiling in the snap, but were embracing.

Seemingly addressing the past struggles of his parents, Rocco captioned the post: ‘It’s obvious why some people might hold judgement against me, I don’t blame them. However, I am proud to be who I am, but I’m even prouder to have both of my parents together in one room supporting me. The work should speak for itself, that’s why the show was called “Talk Is Cheap”.’

Rocco was met with many messages of support for his career milestone too.

‘Beautiful work Rocco, and 2 very proud parents right there with ya. You’ve carved your own path tho. Kudos,’ Andrea commented.

‘Congrats & omg you’re a mini version of your dad! So so pleased they came together for this special time in your life,’ Nise shared.

Meanwhile David Beckham also wrote: ‘Proud moment well done mate, stay hungry.’

Who are Madonna’s children?

Lourdes Leon (born in 1996) – Madonna’s eldest child from her relationship with fitness trainer Carlos Leon.

Rocco Ritchie (born in 2000) – Her eldest son with ex Guy Ritchie.

David Banda (born in 2005) – In 2006 Madonna and Guy Ritchie adopted David when he was one from an orphanage in Malawi.

Mercy James (born in 2006) – After Madonna’s divorce from Ritchie, she applied to adopt Mercy from Malawi as a single mother in May 2009 and was approved the next month.

Twins Stella and Estere (born in 2012) – Madonna adopted her daughters from Malawi in 2017.

The Daily Mail also reported that Madonna and Guy were ‘seen deep in conversation inside the venue and appeared to get along well’.

First meeting when being sat next to each other at a dinner party in London in 1999, the pair welcomed Rocco and were married at Skibo Castle in Scotland the following year.

In 2004 they renewed their vows, before adopting son David Malawi in 2005.

After months of speculation, they were set to split, the couple confirmed reports in December 2008.

In the years since their split, Madonna has been linked to Portuguese model Kevin Sampaio, Dutch choreographer Timor Steffens, and French dancer Brahim Zaibat.

She is currently dating football player Akeem Morris, 29.

Aside from sons Rocco and David – Madonna also has daughter Lourdes, 29. Her father is personal trainer and actor Carlos Leon. Following her split from Guy, Madonna also went on to adopt three more children – daughter Mercy, and twins Estere and Stella.

Meanwhile Guy has been married to model Jacqui Ainsley since 2015. They share three children.

Reflecting on the custody battle over Rocco when he was 16, Madonna recently told Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast: ‘There were moments in my life I wanted to cut my arms off… I actually contemplated suicide.’

‘I would say probably one of the most painful moments in my life where I honestly couldn’t see the forest for the trees was when I went through a custody battle with my son.

‘Even though my marriage didn’t work out… I mean a lot of people’s marriages don’t work out. They marry the wrong people. They’re not aligned. They’re not meant for each other. Someone trying to take my child away from me was like, they might as well just kill me.’

She added: ‘That’s really how I was thinking. And I was on tour at the time, so I had to go on stage every night. I would just be lying on the floor of my dressing room sobbing. I really thought it was like it was the end of the world. I couldn’t take it. I just couldn’t take it.’

The Vogue singer added that she’s now repaired her relationship with Rocco, saying: ‘Thank God I don’t feel that way anymore… I’m happy to say that I’m really good friends with my son, but I couldn’t see it then. I really thought it was the end of the world. So, you know, thank God I had a spiritual life.’
