Say goodbye to Apple TV Plus and hello Apple TV as the streaming service rolls out their ‘vibrant’ new rebrand.

Since bounding onto the streaming scene in 2019, it has taken a few years for Apple TV to build its reputation for prestige, A-List filled TV but now shows like Severance and Ted Lasso are some of the the buzziest around.

In a quiet rebrand launched earlier this week, they announced ‘Apple TV+ is now simply Apple TV, with a vibrant new identity’ with no further explanation over the reason why.

They are certainly not the first platform to change their identity. HBO Max went through various iterations over the years before circling back to its original identity.

Meanwhile, over here in the UK places like Channel 5 and Dave (both now known as 5 and U&Dave) have also seen changing names over the years to varying results.

Following in their footsteps, Apple TV has left people slightly baffled over such subtle change. Especially as this means the streaming service now shares a name with their physical TV and their streaming box (aka Apple TV 4K).

‘Cannot wait to watch apple tv on my apple tv on my apple tv,’ X user Scott Bryan joked.

‘Well, that’s not confusing at all…’ Aaron Zollo shared.

‘Apple TV which is not Apple TV the streaming box but Apple TV the streaming service which you can get on the Apple TV box but also on other machine and smart TVs . But on the other hand a plus is gone, that’s nice,’ Skyler M said.

‘HBO-HBO Max-Max-HBO levels of convoluted brand architecture,’ Evan DeSimone shared.

‘I think most people will not notice that anything changed,’ Val pointed out.

‘Let’s delete the + and call it a VIBRANT rebrand,’ Rae poked fun.

‘This is so Channel 5/Channel Five/Five/5 coded,’ Amy Van Gar joked.

‘Lmao Apple making it sound like Apple TV just got divorced and is starting a new chapter in life,’ Winners_Blues teased on Reddit.

Three Apple TV shows you should watch now

The Buccaneers – Period drama

Seasons one and two are now streaming on Apple TV.

The Studio – Comedy

‘The Studio is The Bear mixed with Call My Agent. A stressful, engaging workplace drama but with the comedy (because, to be clear, despite what the Golden Globes says, The Bear is not a comedy) and delectable A-list cameos of Call My Agent.’

Others have noted that their is some sense to the new look.

‘To be fair I don’t know anyone who doesn’t already simply call it Apple TV. Nobody says the plus part. Just like everyone kept saying HBO Max. The actual users knew the better names for the services, the companies simply finally caught up,’ Andrew Keck posed.

‘If they are putting the same name on the hardware device, the subscription and the streaming service, its actually going to make it a lot simpler for a lot of people,’ joeyat argued on Reddit.

The streamers has plenty of exciting releases this winter including Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson’s new crime drama Down Cemetery Road, Breaking Bad Vince Gilligan’s show Pluribus and Jessica Chastain in a conspiracy thriller, The Savant.
