The award‑winning actor, renowned for his role as Theo Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” tragically passed away on July 20, 2025, at age 54, during a family vacation in Costa Rica, according to People. Warner drowned after being caught in a strong current, leaving behind his wife and their precious daughter. 

A Private Father Proud of His Daughter

Throughout countless interviews, Warner made it clear how much being a dad meant to him. In 2019, he even opened up in a heartfelt Instagram post (seen below), creating a rare public tribute to his daughter:

“Often I find myself just staring at her and wondering where she came from. I wholeheartedly own that the parents she came from/chose are special spirits in our own right and we’ve passed onto her our spiritual and vibrational riches.”

He also shared how thankful he was for the people helping raise her, writing:

“We feel honored and blessed to be backed by a village of family and intimate friends who love our daughter deeply and share in the honor [of] our job to nurture, support, encourage, and protect her precious light.”

Warner never revealed her name… but in every word, every shoutout, and every daughter mention, it was obvious just how much she meant to him. Even as he kept his family out of the spotlight, he proudly shined it on their bond.

Warner’s untimely death has stunned fans and colleagues, not just for the tragic circumstances, but for the loss of a man who seemed so grounded by family. He first entered the spotlight at age 14, becoming a household name as Theo Huxtable (1984–1992).

Most recently, Warner launched the podcast “Not All Hood,” where he explored themes of vulnerability and identity within the Black community; underscoring how deeply his own roles as father, husband, and storyteller were intertwined with his public work.

In the wake of this terrible news, those who admired him will remember him not only for his iconic roles, but for the affection and devotion he showed in fatherhood.
