Maria Shriver is remembering Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, not only for their public achievements but for the deeply personal role they played as parents.
In a heartfelt tribute shared following the coupleâs deaths, Shriver reflected on the values that defined their family life, saying they ânever stopped trying to be really good parents.â
Rob and Michele shared three kids: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob also had a daughter named Tracy that he shared with his ex-wife Penny Marshall.
Shriver, a longtime friend of the Reiner family, emphasized that while Rob Reiner was widely celebrated for his work as a filmmaker and actor, his devotion at home mattered just as much to him.
“I loved Michele and Rob Reiner. They were among my closest friends. We raised our kids together, from mommy and me on up. We laughed together, we cried together, we played together, we dreamed together,” she wrote.
Shriver Just Recently Had Dinner With the Two
She added that she just had dinner with the two last week.
“We had dinner this past week, and they were in the best place in the their lives: loving one another, loving their friends, their family, their country,” Shriver continued.
She added how incredibly she said is to lose her two friends.
“My love is with their family. Iâm so sad for them. Iâm devastated, gutted, shocked, stunned, and so deeply saddened, as are all of the people who loved them and who they loved. I hope people remember them as two deeply talented, kind, fun, loving, good, patriotic people who loved each other deeply,” she continued.
Shriver said she is going to miss the two. “Iâll miss you, Michele. Iâll miss you, Rob. I love you both. Thank you for your friendship. God bless you both. Life will not be the same without you here, thatâs for sure,” she concluded.
Reiner, best known for directing classics such as âWhen Harry Met Sallyâ¦,â âThe Princess Brideâ and âStand by Me,â often spoke publicly about the importance of family.
Eric Idle Spoke With Reiner Just Before His Death
Shriver was not the only famous friend to have been in recent contact with Reiner.
In a touching post, comedian Eric Idle said he spoke with the famous director the very same day he passed away.
âRob Reiner was a lovely man. I spoke to him last night for over an hour,â Idle said. âI always enjoyed his company. I met him at his Dadâs in 1975. He was telling me about filming at Stonehenge and his thoughts for the future.â
