Mariska Hargitay Reflects on ‘Boss Lady’ Taylor Swift & the ‘Bad Blood’ Video

“It was just a text,” Mariska Hargitay previously said on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.” She was referring to how she was asked to be in Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video. “I got a text one day, saying, ‘Do you want to be in my video?’” For Hargitay, the whole experience was surreal. “I felt like I was in seventh grade and the cool girl picked me,” she recalled.

It’s endearing to listen to the “SVU” star talk about how she felt about being included. It’s obvious how much she cherished the experience. A decade since the iconic “Bad Blood” video was released, and Hargitay still lights up at the mention of it.

Mariska Hargitay Gushes Over Taylor Swift in New Podcast Interview

Hargitay has nothing but love for Swift, and it shows when she talks about her. “It was so fun,” Hargitay told Alex Cooper on her “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “It was the best music video.” She gushed about going to the Video Music Awards with Swift’s “squad.” “That was the most fun, being in the squad with all the cool girls, supermodels, and all of it was, like, the most fun ever.”

“It was just so great, and she was just warm and smart and kind, and such a boss lady,” she continued enthusiastically. And it was so amazing cuz — what year was that? I learned so much from her. That’s what I love about her, she’s so young, but she shows us in such beautiful ways how to be fearless and a boss lady.”

Taylor Swift and Mariska Hargitay’s Friendship Has a ‘Cute’ Origin Story

Before Swift texted Hargitay asking her to be in her video, she was already a well-known fan of the actress. She loved “SVU,” and even named one of her cats Olivia Benson, after Hargitay’s character. They even had their meet-cute.

“I met her at the Met Gala,” she once told Seth Meyers. “And I was so uncool, and she’s standing there, and she’s like, ‘Hi, I like your show,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, thanks,’ I didn’t know that she was, like, the second coming, she joked.

“We met her, and I was super flattered,” she continued. “We both are fans of Ingrid Michaelson. And we were together at an Ingrid Michaelson concert, who is also a friend of ours. And we met, and she was, again, so unbelievably lovely.”

As fate would have it, Hargitay and her husband didn’t have a ride home from the concert. Swift offered, and the two have been friends ever since.
