Wenne Alton Davis, who starred in Marvelous Mrs Maisel among other TV shows, has died aged 60 after she was hit by a car in New York.
Local outlets report the actress – real name Wendy Davis – was hit by an SUV on Monday 9 December while walking in Manhattan just before 9pm.
Police said she was pronounced dead at the hospital later that evening.
Davis was born on October 18, 1965, in Durham, NC, and lived in Forest Hills, Queens, having moved to New York to pursue stand-up comedy before finding her feet in acting alongside working as security staff in John F Kennedy International Airport.
Jamie Harris, Davis’s agent at Clear Talent Group, confirmed her death to Metro.
In a statement, shared with permission of her family, Jamie said: ‘I can only describe Wenne Davis as a bright light. She had a huge love for New York, for acting, for her colleagues at JFK and, most of all, her family and her circle of friends (which was also huge).
‘She was someone for whom friendliness and kindness were not what she did but more who she was as a person. I’ve talked to many of her friends in the past few days and all of them speak of her generous spirit and love of life.
‘We all agree that she had much more to do in her career as an actor and her life. Literally, no one I’ve spoken to can believe that she’s no longer with us. She will be greatly missed by everyone here at CTG and all who knew and loved her.’
Davis was hit blocks away from big Manhattan landmarks including the Radio City Music Hall and the Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree.
She had just visited her close friend’s home, where she told him, ‘I love you, I appreciate you,’ the heartbroken friend told The Daily News.
‘It was so weird to me, because I felt like she was saying goodbye,’ he said, adding: ‘She was very driven, compassionate, giving. I will miss her smile, laugh and joie de vivre.’
Davis played a police officer in the Amazon Prime comedy series The Marvelous Mrs Maisel in 2023 alongside Rachel Brosnahan.
She also appeared in Blindspot in 2019, as well as New Amsterdam and The Normal Heart that same year.
In 2022 she appeared in Girls5eva and in 2009 Davis had a part in Rescue Me.
