
Matthew McConaughey is urging fans to support his home state following the devastating flooding in the Texas Hill Country. On Sunday, July 6, the actor shared an emotional message via Instagram, acknowledging the deep toll the natural disaster has taken on families across the region.
âAt least 70 lives have been lost, many more are unaccounted for, and countless Texans are hurting â inside and out,â the 55-year-old Uvalde native wrote.
âPlease Lend a Helping Hand,â McConaughey Urges

In his post, McConaughey emphasized the need for community support in the wake of what he described as ongoing shock and chaos. âIf you’re able, please lend a helping hand where and how you can,â he urged. âIt’s gonna be a long road ahead, but right now the shock, the pain, and the chaos need the steady hand of a neighbor.â
He closed his statement with a message of hope, writing: âTexans are some of the most resilient and generous people on the planet.â
The Dallas Buyers Club actor also tagged his wife Camila Alves, their son Levi, and their Just Keep Livinâ Foundation, which provides youth programs and community support across the U.S.
Texas Flood Disaster Escalates as Guadalupe River Overflows
As of Monday, July 7, the death toll had climbed to 82, including 28 children, according to the Associated Press. The unprecedented flooding began when heavy rains caused the Guadalupe River to overflow, resulting in the drowning of portions of Central Texas and the sweeping away of structures, vehicles, and people. The Kerr County Sheriffâs Office confirmed that 68 victims had been recovered so far â 40 adults and 28 children â with more still missing or unidentified.
One of the hardest-hit areas was Camp Mystic, a popular summer camp in Hunt, Texas. On its website, the camp confirmed: âWe are grieving the loss of 27 campers and counselors following the catastrophic flooding on the Guadalupe River.â
Other Celebrities Join Relief Efforts
Several celebrities with ties to Texas have spoken out. Jennifer Garner, born in Houston, wrote on her Instagram Story: âTexas. God, be near.â
Shakira, who performed in San Antonio over the weekend, announced that she was donating a portion of her concert proceeds to Catholic Charities of San Antonio.âDear San Antonio, Our hearts and prayers are with those affected by the flood in Central Texas,â she wrote.
