Former “Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert will appear in Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart” for a guest arc during season 12. The network shared its first glimpse at her character ahead of the premiere.
This is not Gilbert’s first time working with Hallmark. Fans may remember her roles in films like “Sacrifices of the Heart” and “Thicker Than Water.” She also competed on season 14 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
In September 2024, Deadline reported that Gilbert would appear in two episodes of “When Calls the Heart” season 12. The announcement was made at a yearly event for the series held in Vancouver, Canada.
Now, the network has taken to Instagram to tease Gilbert’s appearance and fans are loving it.
Melissa Gilbert Plays Georgie McGill
On January 1, a photo showing Gilbert dressed as her character for “When Calls the Heart” was posted on the show’s Instagram page.
The caption began, “In case you missed this HUGE announcement this fall, we are thrilled to welcome @melissagilbertofficial to season twelve of When Calls the Heart!”
The caption also asked fans, “What are your predictions for Melissa’s character, Georgie?”
As Deadline noted, Gilbert will play Georgie McGill. The network also teased McGill “shares a surprising past with one special Hope Valley resident.”
Gilbert’s character also popped up in a teaser sneak peek video for season 12. An earlier preview indicated she will be in episodes airing in January and she will have a connection to Bill Avery.
WCTH Fans Are Enthusiastic About Gilbert Joining the Show
When Gilbert joined the Hearties event in September, she gave fans a hint about her character. “The majority of my scenes are with Jack,” she revealed. That would be a reference to cast member Jack Wagner, who plays Avery.
Fans were excited to see the Instagram post about Gilbert joining the show.
One fan wrote, “So exciting that Melissa Gilbert is part of the Heartie-verse now!”
Another suggested her character could be a “Love interest for Bill!”
Someone else gushed, “Wow! What a wonderful person to add to the already great crew!”
“I am beyond excited to see Melissa in Hope Valley !!! Can’t wait,” read a separate response.
“I’m so excited and I hope for some romance between her and Bill,” a different commenter shared.
