Michael J. Fox wants those affected by Parkinson’s to remain positive while living with the disease or caring for loved ones who are suffering.
“Breathe. Just breathe and know you’re not alone and know that it’s a tough road ahead, but you’ll get through it,” he told Little Big Town member Kimberly Schlapman for an ET interview.
He continued, “The love of other people really helps. The love of yourself helps. And know that you deserve to be taken seriously. You deserve to be treated right and to get the best treatment.”
On how he gets through tough times, Fox said, “I just take each day as it comes, and of course, I have Tracy [Pollan] and the kids.”
Fox admitted that his disease is hardest on his wife because while she doesn’t have Parkinson’s, she lives it through him.
“I plead guilty to not always giving her credit for the fact that sometimes it’s just sad,” he shared. Fox added, “I can’t do the things I used to do. I can’t hike anymore, I can’t do the things we used to do, and it’s hard. We have to mourn those things.”
Despite the challenges, the former “Family Ties” actor is hopeful for a cure and continues to raise money through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
When Schlapman pointed out that the organization raised over $2 billion, Fox told her, “It makes me feel grateful and optimistic and noticed.”
Schlapman Revealed That Her Mom Has Parkinson’s
In March 2023, Schlapman shared on Instagram that her mom had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
“As you grow up, thereâs a part of life you donât plan for. Iâm there right now. My precious mother has Parkinsonâs disease, and she is fighting it like a warrior,” the country singer wrote.
Schlapman shared that her group, Little Big Town, and Brad Paisley would be performing at a Michael J. Fox fundraiser to help raise money for research.
“Michael J. Fox says his goal from the beginning has been to find a cure and close the doors of his foundation,” Schlapman wrote.
She encouraged fans, “If you or someone you love [is] in this fight or if you would just like to fight along with this incredibly important crusade, gather some of your friends and grab a table for a heartwarming & super fun evening.”
Little Big Town lent their talents again on April 17, along with fellow country singer Chris Stapleton, for another Michael J. Fox Foundation fundraising event, The Tennessean reported.
Together, they helped raise over $1 million. “I’m grateful that my bandmates have understood the power of how we’ve used music for healing, on multiple levels, for the past two decades,” Schlapman told the publication.
