Miley Cyrus’ highly anticipated film premiere took a chaotic turn when a furious fan heckled the singer, sparking a storm of viral backlash and online debate.
The pop superstar appeared at New York’s Beacon Theatre on June 6 for the world premiere of Something Beautiful, a visual album and cinematic companion to her latest record.
The hour-long film debuted as part of the Tribeca Film Festival, with Cyrus joined on the red carpet by her creative collaborators and her mother, Tish Cyrus.
‘Everybody say “dysfunctional!”‘ Miley joked to photographers, posing in a sheer beaded gown as fans gathered to celebrate what was billed as a ‘one-of-a-kind pop opera.’
However, not everyone in the sold-out audience was clear on what they’d signed up for, so things became even more dysfunctional than Miley had imagined.
In a now-viral clip circulating online, a woman in the crowd can be heard yelling: ‘We thought this was a concert! We paid $800! Are you actually going to sing?’

Handling the moment like a true pro, Miley then launched into an acapella rendition of The Climb.
But not everyone was appeased. Other frustrated attendees echoed that sentiment online, claiming they’d been misled into believing the premiere would feature a live performance.
‘You scammed us,’ wrote TikTok user @catherinegattii.
@mitchsipstea added: ‘Should’ve made it more clear prior that it was a film (if you can even call it that). Never felt more scammed paying hundreds for something that was basically a marathon viewing of music videos. Something Beautiful? Something Scammy?’
@bhawes99 shared their experience: ‘Miley, I flew with 2 daughters from Houston, thinking we would see you perform. This trip is thousands of dollars. This was advertised as a CONCERT. This was a rip off. I want my money back and an apology. FALSE ADVERTISING X100! All the people in the lobby were angry at being scammed.’
However, many fans quickly rallied to Miley’s defense, blaming the backlash on poor reading comprehension.

@TasteOfESV fumed on X: ‘This actually pissed me off so bad… how dare you disrespect MILEY CYRUS at her own event bc YOU didn’t read what you were buying a ticket for?? She has no obligation to entertain you ungrateful people.’
@TheMileyCyrusHQ added: ‘The thing is after my experience with the rude fans at Chateau, I would have literally stood up and told her to shut the fuck up. Like I can’t take it anymore. Let’s normalise Chappell Roaning.’
@MBC0801 posted under a clip of the heckler: ‘Explain to me how u thought a film premiere was a concert.’

@xan_jpeg agreed: ‘How did they get concert from anything in the promotional materials?’
In fairness, the ticketing page did clearly state: ‘Fueled by fantasy, Something Beautiful is a one-of-a-kind pop opera featuring thirteen original new songs from the Something Beautiful album. After the Premiere: An exclusive conversation with Miley Cyrus.’
Hopefully, after a rocky premiere event, it’ll be smooth sailing as the film hits cinemas in the US.
