In the 12 years since it launched in the United Kingdom, Netflix has been providing viewers with what feels like a never-ending stream of viewing options.
With multiple movies and TV shows being released each week, there are no shortage of titles to tune into, with many becoming massive hits around the world.
From Stranger Things and Bridgerton to Tiger King and Baby Reindeer, Netflix shows have become water-cooler conversation topics or left anyone lagging behind being kept on their toes to avoid spoilers.
For those nosy and wanting to know just what is trending in other households in their country Netflix provides a Top 10 list, which undoubtedly leads more people to watch whatever has captured the interest of others.
Within hours of a new major show dropping, it usually jumps to the top of the chart, but can be knocked off within a few days if people decide in droves they’d rather go back to old favourites like Friends or The Big Bang Theory.
This week, a new British superhero series has flown to the top spot, beating out massive series’ like Bridgerton and Eric. Here are the shows currently the most popular across the U.K.
1. Supacell

Created by Rapman (Andrew Onwubolu), Supacell follows a group of seemingly ordinary black people from South London, who are unified by a family history of sickle cell disease and unexpectedly develop superpowers.
Starring Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Eddie Marsan, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba and Josh Tedeku, they must all fend off entrapment by a secret organisation seeking to control them after discovering each other.
Since launching last week, it’s picked up an impressive perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, with viewers praising the series.
One fan, Bobi Smokes, posted on X that it ‘might be the best show on Netflix right now’, while others said it was ‘phenomenal’ and ‘10/10’.
2. Depp v. Heard

It might have aired over a year ago on Channel 4, but the Depp v. Heard documentary charting the 2022 court case between Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard has still got plenty of people interested.
The three-part series tells ‘the story of the tumultuous defamation trial’, which was livestreamed and received considerable attention on social media at the time.
One viewer, Jay Zee, said people watching the documentary now were ‘seeing things in a new light’ without biased commentary on social media while another, Terry, said it was a ‘must watch’.
3. Worst Roommate Ever

Pretty much everyone who has ever lived in a share house has some sort of wild roommate anecdote, but this documentary series shines a light on truly terrifying tales.
Th four-part season features four stories about roommates with ‘malevolent and sometimes violent intentions who turn the lives of their unsuspecting victims into real-life nightmare’.
The first follows a woman who uses the dark web to gain custody of her roommate’s child, with the others about a landlord who preys on a vulnerable couple desperate for housing; a man who falsely imprisons his roommate before being caught on tape attacking another; and a woman who opens her home to her late husband’s best friend then resorts to deadly measures for a quick payday.
Viewers have labelled the show ‘wild’, ‘insane’ and ‘twisted’, with many sharing it has reaffirmed their decisions to live alone.
4. Rick and Morty

Running since 2013, Rick and Morty is an American adult animated science fiction sitcom following the misadventures of Rick Sanchez, a cynical mad scientist, and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith.
The pair divide their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures that take place across an infinite number of realities.
There have been seven seasons of the show to date, with Netflix viewers flocking to re-watch episodes recently.
5. Bridgerton

Some people seem to have taken their time to enjoy the latest season of Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton, which this time follows the love story between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
Released in two parts, fans praised the chemistry between the two leads and finally got to see Penelope unmasked to the ‘Ton as gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.
Recent statistics also released by Netflix revealed viewers rushed to tune in, watching for 589,000,000 minutes in its first day.
6. Owning Manhattan

We’ve had Selling Sunset, Selling the O.C. and Buying London giving us a sneak peak into luxury properties in some of the world’s wealthiest areas and now it’s New York’s turn.
Released this week, Owning Manhattan follows real mogul Ryan Serhant, who leads one of the biggest firms in New York and ‘pushes his agents to greatness while tackling the most expensive listings’.
A former star of Million Dollar Listing New York, Ryan opened his brokerage Serhant in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, however it’s since expanded to seven states and grown to have over 500 employees.
A classic guilty pleasure watch, viewer Chandra posted on X that the series had her in a ‘chokehold’ while another thanked Netflix for ‘indulging my love of luxury real estate’.
7. America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders

Following on from the success of the 2020 documentary series Cheer, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders follows the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders from ‘auditions to training camp and the NFL season as they chase their dreams and a coveted spot on the squad’.
The seven-part series documents the amount of work it takes – mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally – to make everything appear seamless in a 36-person chorus line.
As viewer Maggie explained: ‘I put off watching America’s Sweethearts on Netflix because I knew I would become obsessed with it and surprise!’
Many others agreed with her sentiment, with Julie sharing she was ‘finding it absolutely compelling viewing’.
However some who tuned in weren’t as impressed, with Louise calling out ‘the misogyny, body shaming and encouragement of disordered eating’ which she said was ‘appalling and belongs to a badly aged show from fifty years ago, not a show of today’.
8. The Mole

Originally airing from 2001 until 2008, the reality game show The Mole follows contestants working as a group to add money to a pot that only one of them will eventually win, however one of them as secretly been designated as ‘the Mole’ and is tasked with sabotaging the group’s money-making efforts.
At the end of each episode, the contestant who knows the least about the mole, as determined by the results of a multiple-choice quiz, is eliminated from the game.
The last contestant standing wins the game and the money in the pot.
After the massive success of The Traitors, it’s not surprising U.K. viewers have rushed to tune into this series too, which was rebooted by Netflix in 2022.
The next season, the seventh overall, was released last week.
9. New Amsterdam

With four seasons available to stream, Netflix viewers have been binging medical series New Amsterdam.
Premiering in 2018 and based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer, it stars Ryan Eggold (90210, The Blacklist) Dr. Max Goodwin as he becomes the medical director of one of the United States’ oldest public hospitals, aiming to reform the neglected facility by tearing up its bureaucracy to provide exceptional care to patients.
Although the fifth season isn’t available on Netflix just yet, it is the last after the show was cancelled in 2022.
That doesn’t seem to have deterred many though, with one posting on X: ‘New Amsterdam is my current Netflix thing. I don’t usually start a show if I know it’s been cancelled but I’m at start of S2 and it’s not bad. Not my usual cup of coffee but it’s enjoyable.
10. Eric

Released at the end of May, Eric is a stars Benedict Cumberbatch as distraught puppeteer Vincent whose young son Edgar goes missing in 1980s New York City.
After issues with substance abuse, Vincent becomes convinced that he can reunite with Edgar with the help of his seven-foot-tall puppet, Eric, who stars appearing to him.
Benedict previously explained how this was ‘a story about people finding their home’.
‘Whether it’s a child, a homeless person, a gay Black cop, a wife in an unhappy marriage, or even Eric on the show, it’s all about finding a place,’ he said.
Viewer Sarah called the show a ‘masterpiece’ while another said that it was a ‘difficult to watch anything that includes children going missing’ but labelled it a ‘brilliant drama’.
