Molly Ringwald doesn’t want a The Breakfast Club remake because it is too dated, the legendary 80s actor has said.
The 57-year-old actress doesn’t think John Hughes’ classic 1985 coming-of-age comedy-drama is diverse enough for a straightforward re-make 40 years on as it doesn’t represent today’s world.
The Breakfast Club is one of Molly’s most famous 80s appearances alongside Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink.
Molly played high school queen bee Claire Standish in the cult classic – which even has a cafe chain named after it – alongside Judd Nelson, 65, Ally Sheedy, 62, Emilio Estevez, 62, and Anthony Michael Hall, 57,
According to People, Molly told attendees at the C2E2 fan convention in Chicago: ‘I personally don’t believe in remaking that movie, because I think this movie is very much of its time.
‘It resonates with people today. I believe in making movies that are inspired by other movies but build on it and represent what’s going on today.

‘This is very white, this movie. You don’t see a lot of different ethnicities. We don’t talk about gender. None of that. And I feel like that really doesn’t represent our world today.
‘I’d like to see movies that are inspired by The Breakfast Club, but take it in a different direction,’ she said.
The cast play five teenagers from different high school cliques who are forced to spend Saturday detention together and work out their differences.
Fellow actor Allly previously told Metro that if The Breakfast Club was re-made, it would be much more diverse.
‘I think they would have to change quite a bit in the movie if it was going to be relevant now,’ she said.
‘I don’t think it would be all white kids in a suburb of Chicago. I think that’s one thing by itself. I don’t think that [five white kids] would be particularly relevant or powerful today.
‘I think there would be some changes in the women in the film and how they are spoken about and how they speak to other people. It was very much John Hughes’ story and vision.
‘The film was more about him than it was anyone else. It would be totally different, especially now he’s no longer here.’
Molly previously shared why she believes the movie has endured for over 40 years, attributing it to the lack of ‘vampires, zombies and werewolves’.

She told Variety: ‘The Breakfast Club’ has endured for decades because there are no vampires in it. Any movie with teenagers now has to have a vampire, a zombie or a werewolf.
‘I think that’s one of the reasons it has this lasting quality, because they haven’t been able to replicate it. It’s not for lack of trying. [The studio] gave John an awful lot of freedom for a relatively untested director.’
The 40-year reunion convention marked the first time the main cast ofteens had come together since the 80s.
While there was a mini-reunion in 2010, Emilio was unable to make it due to other commitments, but he made sure he didn’t miss this ‘special’ get-together.
‘I skipped all my high school reunions, so this was something that finally felt like I needed to do, just for myself,’ he explained to the crowd, as reported by Us Weekly.

‘This one felt special because it’s here in Chicago where we made the film, it’s the 40th anniversary, and I just love all of them [cast], so it just made sense.’
Talking about the film’s success, Emilio, who played the stereotypical athlete Andrew ‘Andy’ Clark, was honest in admitting that while it ‘stands the test of time’, the ‘cross-generational film’ was simply a case of being at the right place at the right time.
Molly also revealed her warmth towards her fellow Breakfast Club actors.
‘I feel really moved that we’re all together,’ she said.
In the years since the film was made, the stars have gone on to forge successful careers, with Molly starring in a mix of film and TV shows, including Riverdale and The Bear.
Directed by the late John Hughes, who died in 2009 after suffering a sudden heart attack at the age of 59, the film still boasts 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
