Nancy Guthrie’s Eerie Social Media Post About Home Security Cameras Resurfaces

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, once asked internet users on the site Nextdoor about what outdoor security cameras were best to see nighttime activity, the New York Post reports.

According to Nextdoor’s official website, their app “connects neighbors to the people, places, and information that matter most in their local communities.” Those who are able to verify their real address on the app will also have access to “trusted local news” and “real-time safety alerts.”

In the NYP’s report on Guthrie’s usage of Nextdoor, it states that she sent her request for information on November 25, 2021. The location on her post, which others in her area were able to see, was verified as Tucson, Ariz., where her Catalina Foothills home is located.

“I’m thinking about buying ring or nest security/doorbell camera? Any suggestions? Which has the best camera? Interested in seeing animal activity at night,” Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie, wrote.

Guthrie’s Nextdoor post received six comments and four reactions from locals. One response said, “A trail camera might be cheaper.”

Another comment, which could be seen in the screenshot obtained by the NYP, said, “Greg Gaunt and they r great.had something digging in our front yard buy could never catch it..husband set out a trail camera…it was a packrat almost the size of our cat..have never seen one that big before..”

During an interview with NewsNation on Tuesday, Feb. 3, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos addressed the cameras that were outside of Guthrie’s $1 million home, saying, “I know there were cameras.”

Nanos added, “Those cameras are in our possession, and we’re downloading them and working with a lot of the makers of those cameras, because some of them are server-based but not cloud-based, and so those things are actively being pursued.”

As of Feb. 3, two days after Guthrie was reported to be missing, authorities have turned her home over to her family after concluding their investigation inside and out. “The scene is done,” Sheriff Nanos said during a press conference, Today.com reports. “We’re done with the residence.”

Guthrie’s disappearance is being looked into as a possible abduction. “We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” Nanos told NBC News on Feb. 2.

The Pima County Attorney’s Department has even offered a reward of up to $2,500 for any leads about Guthrie’s disappearance. This comes just hours before TMZ reported that they received a possible ransom note in their email, where the sender demanded millions of dollars in the form of Bitcoin.
