Nancy Meyers Honors Diane Keaton
Meyers posted a photo of Keaton on Instagram and reflected on who she was and what she meant to her in the post’s caption. âThese past 48 hours have not been easy. Seeing all of your tributes to Diane has been a comfort,â she wrote. “As a movie lover, Iâm with you all – we have lost a giant. A brilliant actress who time and again laid herself bare to tell our stories.â
Keaton and Meyers had an excellent working relationship, collaborating on âBaby Boomâ in 1987, âFather of the Brideâ in 1991, and âSomething’s Gotta Giveâ in 2003. But they were also friends. âAs a woman, I lost a friend of almost 40 years – at times over those years, she felt like a sister because we shared so many truly memorable experiences,â she wrote. âAs a filmmaker, Iâve lost a connection with an actress that one can only dream of. We all search for that someone who really gets us, right? Well, with Diane, I believe we mutually had that.â

Meyers praised Keatonâs acting and ability to be âvulnerableâ and âhilarious.â
The director also reflected on Keaton’s incredible working relationships with other directors and how she went âdeepâ with her performances. She concluded her lengthy tribute with a powerful statement. âShe was fearless, she was like nobody ever, she was born to be a movie star. Her laugh could make your day and for me, knowing her and working with her – changed my life,â Meyers wrote. âThank you Di. Iâll miss you forever.â
Nancy Meyers & Diane Keatonâs Friendship
Keaton appreciated Meyers and what she helped her achieve in âSomething’s Gotta Give.â When accepting a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy in 2004, she praised Meyers. âI sure as hell wasnât prepared to be rediscovered by Nancy Meyers,â she said, People reports. âLetâs face it: Getting to play a woman to love at 57 is like reaching for the stars with a step ladder. But I know I got lucky.”
She continued, “And isnât it ironic that all my luck was to have Nancy give me a chance to play a woman to love one more bittersweet time?”
