Sometimes kids can’t help but show off their famous parents, and honestly, who can blame them? Natalie Portman‘s 14-year-old son Aleph made a charming and unexpected appearance in a video shared by gaming streamer Marlon Lundgren Garcia, who goes by Marlon LuGa online. The teenager’s sincere attempt to impress the content creator by introducing his Oscar-winning mother has trended across social media.
The interaction took place while the Twitch personality was live streaming in Paris on Sunday, playing soccer, when Aleph approached him with an enthusiastic introduction. In the video shared on LuGa’s Instagram page, the teen asked whether the streamer knew who Natalie Portman was.
When LuGa appeared uncertain, Aleph provided a helpful hint that any “Star Wars” fan would recognize. “You know Star Wars? Padmé Amidala, that’s my mom,” he explained, referencing Portman’s iconic character from the prequel trilogy released between 1999 and 2005.
The moment of recognition was immediate and genuine. “That’s your mom?” LuGa responded in shock. Once it clicked for the streamer who Portman was, Aleph seized the opportunity to ask if he could arrange a “shoutout” to his mother.
Aleph’s FaceTime Surprise
What followed was an adorable family moment as Aleph video-called his mother on his iPhone, allowing LuGa to have a brief virtual meeting with the Hollywood star. The footage showed Portman getting her hair done during the call.
“You want to say hi to Marlon?” Aleph asked his mother during the FaceTime call. Portman warmly greeted the streamer with a laugh. “How are you doing? Hi! I’m sorry for disturbing you,” LuGa told the actress as he took the phone from Aleph. “I just wanted to say hi real quick.”
The “Jackie” star responded graciously despite apparent audio difficulties during the call. “I’m sorry, I like, can’t hear anything but I hope you’re having a great day!” Portman said with a smile. She managed to tell him it was “nice to meet” him before the brief conversation concluded.
LuGa explained to Portman that he was with her son and they were “about to play a little football,” though the connection issues made communication challenging. Despite the technical difficulties, both parties remained polite and friendly throughout the interaction.
A Genuine Fan Moment
After the call ended, LuGa shared his personal connection to Portman’s work with his audience, revealing the genuine admiration behind his excitement. “Super respectfully, when I was growing up, I used to watch Star Wars heavily. She was my biggest crush, bro,” he explained to his followers. “Very beautiful woman, very good son. That’s insane.”
The internet star, who boasts 2.3 million TikTok followers, handled the surprise encounter with respect and appreciation, thanking Portman for her time before ending the call.
This rare public glimpse of Aleph highlights Portman’s careful approach to protecting her children’s privacy while allowing them to have normal childhood experiences. The 44-year-old actress shares Aleph and 8-year-old daughter Amalia with her ex-husband Benjamin Millepied, whom she divorced in February 2024 after 11 years of marriage.
In a recent conversation with Jenna Ortega for Interview Magazine published in April, Portman explained her philosophy about maintaining boundaries around her family life. “I’m not a particularly private person in real life — I’ll tell you anything — but in public, it was so clear early on that if you tell people how private you are, your privacy gets respected a lot more,” she shared.
She continued: “I set up a little bit of a barrier to be like, ‘I’m not going to do photo shoots with my kids.’” This approach allows her children to have relatively normal experiences while still acknowledging the reality of their mother’s fame.
Interestingly, Portman previously mentioned in a 2016 appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel” that she hadn’t yet shown her “Star Wars” films to Aleph at that time, citing concerns about her character’s fate in the movies. “I realized, I die in the movies. I feel like it’s kind of a scary thing to show your kid,” she explained then.
