Fans get excited because of one of the highest-rated and most loved sequels to an animated film has been added to Netflix – just in time for some festive family viewing.

While this time of year provides the perfect chance to catch up on favourite movies, UK viewers can now add a very highly regarded animated movie to their watchlist in the form of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

It’s been described as ‘spellbinding’, a ‘shockingly phenomenal movie’ and ‘one of the best films of the year’ in reviews, while fans called it ‘insanely good’ and potentially ‘the best sequel ever made’.

This 2022 flick is a delayed follow up to 2011’s Puss in Boots, itself a spin-off the hugely popular Shrek movies that first introduced the swashbuckling feline, voiced by Hollywood superstar Antonio Banderas, to fans.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has a remarkable 95% score on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes from 193 professional critics’ responses, as well as 94% on the Popcornmeter from over 5,000 audience ratings.

In contrast, the original Puss in Boots has an 86% rating from critics, but only 68% from fans.

With a break of over a decade between the first and second films, many were actually rather sceptical over a second spin-off film for Puss before his return wowed people across the board.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was Oscar nominated as best animated picture that year, losing out to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

But in the race against him to seek the same treasure include other fairytale characters like the crime family Goldilocks and the Three Bears and corrupt pastry salesman ‘Big’ Jack Horner (John Mulaney), while a sinister wolf is also on Puss’s tail.

‘This might sound stupid but this film is in the running for the best sequel ever made, especially compared to the quality of its predecessor,’ enthused fan Steve N on Rotten Tomatoes, adding: ‘It’s superb from start to finish and one of the best animated movies ever made.’

‘The best animated movie I have watched,’ agreed Lathif P, while Enzo D called it a ‘perfect movie’ and Bhiman N ‘a modern classic’.
