Season two of a new Netflix’s teen drama has soared up the charts- despite being criticised by viewers.
My Life with the Walter Boys returned to screens last week, serving as the perfect antidote to the agonising week-long waits between The Summer I Turned Pretty instalments.
Based on Ali Novak’s 2014 novel of the same name and from the same team who brought us (for better or worse) The Kissing Booth, the show is set around 15-year-old Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez).
After the death of her parents, Jackie moved across the country from New York to Colorado to live with her mother’s best friend at her sprawling family ranch, with the 10 Walter children: seven boys, one girl and two nephews.
The latest episodes clearly had us all glued to our screens as it transported us back to the teenager’s love triangle with two of those Walter boys – Alex (Ashby Gentry) and Cole (Noah LaLonde).

Although there was a two-year gap between seasons, the series is currently in second place on the TV charts and shows no signs of slowing down.

However, despite those numbers, many have flocked to social media to brand the series a ‘disappointment’ compared to the 2023 debut.
Unpacking the season on Reddit, Realitealurker wrote: ‘The show I’m assuming is meant to be about the love triangle and the yearning between Cole and Jackie. But it feels like the show is everything but that lol.
‘To me it just feels like a soapy drama with various random plots. I’m pretty disappointed.’
Icy-Marketing-5242 posted: ‘That’s the problem with a lot of shows these days that are shorter episode span and seasons. Too much plot that needs to be shown not told.’

MissPenelope99 replied: ‘Agreed. This literally felt like a mid season finale. That’s the best way to put it… last season ended so much better, this one I’m just left unfulfilled.
‘It feels too chaotic. Like they should be back for 10 more episodes in a few weeks.’
‘I wanted to like it so badly, but it just moves too slowly for me,’ Fit-Entertainer-3124 added.
Much of the second season saw Jackie grappling with identity, college hopes and burgeoning feelings for two of the Walter boys she’s living with.

Ahead of the latest batch of episodes, showrunner Melanie Halsall promised that they would be ‘bigger and better’, as Jackie still struggled to make a decision between the boys, while trying to pursue her dream of getting into Princeton.
She told Netflix’s Tudum: ‘We’ve got massive set pieces in each episode, and the stories are more intricate.
‘The actors really understand their characters now. When I was coming back, I was excited to start shooting again because I knew we had great stories to tell.’
Those who are already in on My Life with the Walter Boys will be pleased to know that the show has already been greenlit for a third season.

My Life with the Walter Boys is available to stream now on Netflix.
