There is some bad news for Bridget Jones fans as the first three films are about to leave Netflix in just a few days.

The iconic rom-com franchise stars Renee Zellweger in the titular role, alongside Colin Firth and Hugh Grant – who play her love interests, Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver, respectively.

Based on the book series of the same name by Helen Fielding, itself a reinterpretation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones’s Diary was released in 2001.

This was then followed up by sequels Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2004 and Bridget Jones’s Baby in 2016.

However before the upcoming fourth film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, is released in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, Netflix is taking down the first three movies, meaning we only have a few days to binge them again.

For those of you who missed the boat, or just want an excuse to revisit that fight between Mark and Daniel, they will be removed by the streaming service on January 15.

The films have recently been taken down from Netflix in other countries, with viewers frustrated by the move.

‘HOW CAN THEY NOT HAVE BRIDGET JONES’S DIARY ON MAX OR NETFLIX????????’ user Heyhey2204 posted on X.

‘Bridget Jones is no longer on Netflix,’ charmanalo shared.

‘Why aren’t Mamma Mia and Bridget Jones Diary on Netflix,’ kalije0n__ added, also referencing another movie that was recently removed.

The next movie is based on the 2013 novel of the same name, in which the now 50-something has become a widow – with two small children – after the death of Mark.

This time around, Bridget’s new love interests are her kids’ teacher Mr Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and 29-year-old toyboy Roxster (One Day’s Leo Woodall).

Director Michael Morris recently shed light on the upcoming movie, and the end of ‘one of the iconic love stories of modern British culture’.

‘I wanted to make a comedy of grief – very much a comedy, very much celebrating life and all the joyfulness that Bridget brings – but with life you can’t ignore the hard bits, it’s going to happen to everybody,’ he said.

‘So how does Bridget deal with it? How do you attack moving on with the Bridget verve and joyfulness?

‘In that way, this is a rom-com, but it’s like a real life rom-com, and that’s what I wanted to make. So, I hope that that’s one of the things that people take away is, “Oh, I hadn’t seen her like this before”.’

The Bridget Jones franchise will leave Netflix on January 15.
