Bridgerton fans rejoice, Netflix has just confirmed the hit regency drama will return for two more seasons – but there’s a lengthy catch.

That’s right dear readers! Netflix has confirmed the Shonda Rhimes production will adapt two more love stories from Julia Quinn’s bestselling book series, with a greenlight for seasons five and six.

There are still four more Bridgerton siblings to get through including Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Hannah Dodd), Gregory (Will Tilston) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).

We were already introduced to Eloise’s love interest in the first season, Sir Phillip Crane (portrayed by Chris Fulton).

And the tantalising end of season three – which saw Penelope aka Lady Whistledown (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) tie the knot – also showed us Francesca’s future wife (the gender-swapped Micheala Stirling played by Masali Baduza).

It has also confirmed that season four, which traces the rags-to-riches romance between Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), will premiere in 2026 – which was long suspected.

This means not only is there another several months-long wait for the fourth season but, with a two-year gap, season six could come out as late as 2030.

A TV Insider told The Sun: ‘After introducing the controversial gender swap at the end of series three which saw Michael Stirling switched to Michaela, there is a chance execs could skip ahead to Francesca’s story.
“They certainly weren’t afraid to dabble with Julia Quinn’s timeline by swapping the order of Colin and Benedict’s tales.”

The ton is abuzz at the renewal, although they are disappointed at the lengthy wait.

‘Season 4 better be premiering on January 1st, 2026,’ myterpfanera88 wrote on X.

‘Why do we have to wait so long,’ Sara complained.

‘I like how they just keep renewing it like two season at a time but take like fifty years to film, we’re never getting season 8,’ lyly shared.

‘2026… are you kidding me,’ ira lamented.

‘Why are we waiting until 2026?’ ramsey echoed.

‘[The first look] plus the renewal of s5 & s6, I am going to be INSUFFERABLE for the next 6-10 years,’ Emily declared.

But worry not, Netflix has whetted the appetite by sharing a proper first look at the series with a clip of Benedict’s iconic first meeting with Sophie after spotting her across the room during a masquerade ball.

His face filled with longing, the camera pans to Sophie, who looks ethereal in a bedazzled silver mask as she stares up in astonishment at the dazzling chandelier.

And there’s plenty of excitement as well.

‘The way this gave me butterflies… i’m COOKED,’ thestateofzoe wrote.

‘I expected s4 to be the dreamiest season, and so far, it absolutely is. oh my god. this is beautiful. she is beautiful,’ rafa shared.

‘Welp this clip just confirmed that it’s going to be the best season of Bridgerton!!!!’ benophie2 added.

Isabella Wei as Posy Li, Katie Leung as Lady Araminta Gao, Michelle Mao as Rosamund Li in episode 401 of Bridgerton

The fourth season will see the return of Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton opposite Simone Ashley as his wife Kate.

It will also star Victor Alli as Lord John Stirling, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton and Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte.

Meanwhile, newcomers include Isabella Wei and Michelle Mao as Sophie Baek’s stepsisters Posy Li, Rosamund Li and Katie Leung as stepmother Lady Araminta Gun.

Explaining the new family and how they fit into the dynamic of the social season, executive producer Jess Brownell teased to Tudum: ‘While Rosamund has become her mother’s mini-me – a marriage mart pro chess player – Posy is dreamy and often unserious, much to her mother’s disapproval.

‘Araminta and Rosamund are so focused on their own goals that, frankly, the Bridgertons don’t register much for them at first, beyond the fact that Benedict proves to be quite the catch this season.’

Elsewhere, Thompson called the plot for the season a ‘proper old-school fairytale’
