It has been reported that Disney + and Apple TV are set to compete for a Gavin and Stacey spin-off series.
Ruth Jones and James Corden reunited the Gavin and Stacey gang for one final episode of the beloved show that aired on Christmas Day 2024.
The episode was a smash hit that raked in 12.5 million viewers who wanted to see how the show finished after 17 years.
The major success of the series has apparently sparked interest from major American streamers who want to approach Corden and Jones about future versions of the show.
‘They see the viewing figures for the Christmas episode and realise how Gavin & Stacey has massive longevity,’ an insider told The Sun.
‘More and more of the streamers, who are often associated more with the US, want to be seen as having an increasing amount of distinctly “British” content.
‘Gavin and Stacey, and any spin-off, fits that bill perfectly, so they’ll be willing to shell out seven or eight-figure sums to secure a deal.’

This isn’t the first rumour floating around. It was also reported that the BBC wanted to commission a spin-off about Pete and Dawn. An insider told The Sun: ‘It would be madness to close the door on such a hit.’
James and Ruth are adamant this is the last of Gavin and Stacey, but, when a programme achieves such results, execs will always hope for more.
‘At the end of the day, ratings talk, and it would be madness to close the door on such a hit forever when fans loved it so much.
‘Bosses have had casual discussions about whether options like a Pete and Dawn spin-off could work.’

The source also added that a different route could be taken: ‘A new universe could be developed which didn’t involve any of the core cast, so James and Ruth’s involvement could be a little different.’
In 2014, an American version of the show was created called Us & Them starring Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel. It was adapted for an American audience by David J. Rosen and was axed after one season and seven episodes.
Much of the criticism centred around the show’s inability to translate to a US audience, particularly with the New York and Pennsylvania rivalry acting in place of differences between the Welsh and the English.

Both James and Ruth have emphasised that this Christmas special is the last time they will work on Gavin and Stacey.
James told Chris Evans on his Virgin Radio breakfast show: ‘We’ve finished writing, we will never write anything that Pam [Alison Steadman’s character] says again…We will never come up with an interesting thing that Bryn [Rob Brydon’s character] has done.
‘And we just looked at each other and we were just like, “Ah, isn’t that amazing?” To even have the luxury of deciding to end it and to be in a position where people still care. It’s inconceivable to us – all of it. I just feel very emotional by all of it; everything.’
Although the writing duo have insisted the series is over, it’s not all bad news as more content is coming from them! The pair recently signed a book deal for a story titled: When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship.
