New Lego Sonic The Hedgehog sets pay homage Sonic Adventure 2

Super Shadow vs. Biolizard is a surprisingly specific reference (Lego)

This year’s Sonic Central livestream has been a bit of a dud, but it did at least reveal two new Lego Sonic the Hedgehog sets.

Lego has been going all out with video game related sets at the moment, which can mean only one thing: they must be selling. Recently we’ve had the amazing Lego Zelda Great Deku Tree and Sony will likely highlight Lego Horizon Adventures at the State of Play on Tuesday night.

But there’s also been the announcement of a new line of Mario Kart sets, an incredible animated Mario and Yoshi, some surprisingly good value Fortnite sets, and… Sonic the Hedgehog.

The Sonic sets have been around since 2021 and, unlike the Super Mario ones, feature minifigure versions of all the most iconic characters. And now there’s versions of Super Sonic, Super Shadow and… Biolizard?

As part of the annual Sonic Central livestream, two new Lego sets were announced: Sonic’s Campfire Clash (77001) and Super Shadow vs. Biolizard (77003).

Both sets are inspired by 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast and GameCube, with Sonic’s Campfire Clash featuring the Gun Beetle and Gun Hunter enemies, along with Sonic himself. And a campfire, obviously.

Cheap, as licensed Lego sets go (Lego)

It’s a relatively cheap set, at £17.99, with only 177 pieces – so it’s a good way to get a Sonic minifigure cheap, along with the launcher and ball to put him in, which all the sets use to simulate him and the other characters running.

Super Shadow vs. Biolizard is a bigger set and is based around one of the key boss battles from the game, with the first Prototype of the Ultimate Life Form. Not only does the Biolizard look like the creature from the game, but it’s got brick-built weak spots that you can try and hit with the launcher.

The set costs £39.99 and is made up of Lego 419 pieces, including the Super Sonic and Super Shadow minifigures. Both new sets will be released on January 1.

If you’re not a fan of Sonic Adventure 2 then there’s also the Super Sonic vs. Egg Drillster (76999) set, which was released earlier in the year.

It also features Super Sonic, obviously, as well as normal Shadow the Hedgehog and the Egg Drillster vehicle and Dr Robotnik (no, we’re not calling him Eggman).

Technically the Egg Drillster is from the Mega Drive games but as well as Shadow, the set also comes with a Gun Wing from Sonic Adventure 2 and an Egg Pawn Bandnik, so you’re getting a variety of builds, including a section of laboratory wall.

The set is made up of 590 pieces and costs £69.99. Unlike the other sets it’s available now.

As far as the rest of the Sonic Central livestream went there was disappointingly little new information, with no mention of Sonic Frontiers 2 or any other major new games.

There is going to be a team-up with DC Comics though, with Sega ending the stream on another tease for the third Sonic The Hedgehog movie.

This is technically Sonic Adventure 2 related too (Lego)
