Tom Holland is sharing exciting news about “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” and fans are going to love what he has to say about returning to his web-slinging roots.
The 28-year-old actor recently discussed the upcoming fourth Spider-Man film during an interview with Flip Your Wig, sharing exciting details about how the production will differ dramatically from his previous MCU adventure. Holland’s enthusiasm for the project is evident as he describes a complete shift in filmmaking approach that promises to bring fresh energy to the beloved franchise.
“Obviously, over the moon, I am so excited to play Spider-Man [again,] it’s like hanging out with an old pal,” Holland shared in the interview. His connection to the character remains as strong as ever, even after taking a break from the role since 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The actor stated that the pandemic significantly limited what they could do during the previous film’s production, creating problems that impacted the entire filmmaking process. This experience has motivated the team to adopt a completely different approach for “Brand New Day”, scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
“We were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages,” Holland explained. “Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations.”
Glasgow Streets Set for Major Action Sequence
One of the most interesting tidbits from Holland’s interview involves choosing Glasgow, Scotland as a main filming location. The city will serve as the backdrop for what sounds like an epic action sequence that could become one of the film’s best moments.
“Which is why we’re starting in Glasgow,” Holland continued. “We’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we’re putting together.”
Holland’s description of the Glasgow sequence as a “massive set piece” shows that fans can expect big action sequences that take advantage of the city’s unique buildings and urban landscape. The real location shooting should provide a more authentic and immersive experience compared to purely digital environments.
The production approach aligns with director Destin Daniel Cretton’s vision for the film. Cretton, who previously directed “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” brings experience in balancing spectacular action with character-driven storytelling.
Going Back to Spider-Man Origins
Holland’s most revealing comment about “Brand New Day” involves comparing it to filming his first solo Spider-Man movie.
“It’s gonna feel like making Spider-Man 1 again,” Holland said enthusiastically. “It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it that it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
The real filming approach supports this back-to-basics philosophy. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal,” Holland noted during his interview.
The film’s cast additions also support this grounded approach. Jon Bernthal will return as The Punisher, marking the first time Spider-Man and Punisher will appear together in live-action. Additional cast members include “Stranger Things” star Sadie Sink and “The Bear’s” Liza Colón-Zayas in unknown roles.
Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to return as MJ and Ned Leeds, respectively, though their roles remain mysterious given the memory-wiping ending of “No Way Home.” The combination of real locations, experienced direction, and Holland’s renewed enthusiasm creates promising conditions for what could be the most satisfying Spider-Man film yet.
