Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was temporarily taken out of the game by an injury to the face he says left him “gushing blood” while playing the New York Jets on Sunday, September 14. The Daily Mail says the game was in the first quarter when the 29-year-old collided face-first with his teammate, O’Cyrus Torrence, after being tackled by Jowon Briggs while attempting a first down on his own turf.
The report says Allen was able to stand immediately after, but walked straight to the sidelines where he was attended by medics. Mitch Trubisky took over Allen’s spot in the game as a sideline reporter for CBS revealed the quarterback’s nose was “bleeding profusely” before doctors packed it with cotton.
First Down Media shared a clip of the incident on X with the caption, “Josh Allen takes a hit to the face! Possible broken nose!”

Josh Allen Spoke About Play that Injured His Nose
During a postgame press conference, the athlete explained to reporters what happened. He responded to a reporter who asked him how his face is, “We can breathe, so it’s good.” He went on to describe his ambitious play, saying, “I pulled it when I probably should have handed it off. I tried to throw it and I saw him push, decided to tuck it. I don’t know what hit me. It was a knee, or it was hand. It was somebody.”
Allen then revealed that his helmet “just kind of came down right on the bridge of my nose and just started leaking.”
He also praised his teammate, Mitch Trubisky, for stepping in last second. He said he wished the player had gotten a chance to “catch his bearings” before being thrown into the game, but explained, “Obviously gushing blood, I just wanted to try to get off the field and stop it.” He concluded, “For him to come off the bench like that with no warmup, nothing, and be ready, I think that’s the true embodiment of the character and the man that he is.”
