Nintendo Direct release date may have been revealed by Among Us teaser

Do we finally know the date now? (Nintendo)

The hunt to discover the air date of this month’s Nintendo Direct now centres around two separate leaks relating to a new Among Us update.

While no important information ever usually leaks out about Nintendo games, not even they can do much about mistakes being made just before an official reveal is due to take place.

Already this month we’ve had multiple surprises spoiled by publishers and their partners, because websites were updated too early or things went up on YouTube or Twitter before they were supposed to.

Nintendo themselves hasn’t made any such mistake but it seems that GameSpot and Among Us developer InnerSloth have, which points towards Tuesday, June 18 being the most likely date of the Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo has already said that a Direct showcase is happening this month, but since they still haven’t said when it’s making this week seem increasingly unlikely.

Most of the more sensible leakers have said they simply don’t know when the Nintendo Direct will be (with at least one suggesting that Nintendo hasn’t decided yet) but the consensus seems to be that it will probably be next week.

What’s happened with Among Us is that two separate sources have accidentally revealed that an update is coming next Tuesday. The first was a blog update on developer InnerSloth’s own website, which talked about three new roles and being ‘scheduled for June 18th’.

The blog was quickly taken down, and is now just a 404 error, but the same information was also allegedly leaked by GameSpot, who accidentally uploaded a trailer for the update which talks about it being ‘out now.’

Nintendo isn’t mentioned at all but if InnerSloth has an event scheduled they haven’t said so and there’s no reason for them to keep it secret (although you could say the same about Nintendo).

However, Among Us has appeared several times during Nintendo Directs of the past and so fans have concluded that the game will likely also be in this new one.

As to what else might feature in the Direct, that is a mystery. Nintendo has said they won’t talk about the Switch 2, but since there’s at least six months to go before it could possibly be released it’s not clear what Nintendo is going to fill its release schedules with in the meantime.

Remasters of Wii U games such as Xenoblade Chronicles X, Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, and Zelda: The Wind Waker HD seem obvious guesses but obvious guesses often don’t work on Nintendo.

Something bigger, like Metroid Prime 4, is a possibility, especially if it receives a remastered edition on the Switch 2, but at the moment it’s difficult enough trying to work out when the Direct will be – let alone what will be in it.

One thing’s for sure, there’s a new Among Us update coming (InnerSloth)
