Mingus Reedus, son of The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and model Helena Christensen, has been arrested and charged for an alleged assault in New York City.
The 25-year-old model was arrested in the US metropolis at approximately 8:40am on Saturday morning near 16th Street and 8th Avenue, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to Metro.
He has since been charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and assault.
The NYPD added that upon arrival at the scene, they ‘observed a 33-year-old female with minor injuries to the neck and leg’.
They confirmed that the victim was subsequently ‘transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition’, while Reedus was taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to sources of The New York Post, Reedus allegedly ‘punched the woman to wake her up before choking her and slamming her to the ground’.
The publication’s police insiders added that it was Reedus who called 911 about a woman who had reportedly taken pills and was threatening suicide at a Manhattan address.
Upon arrival, she accused Reedus of assault, with the NYU Tisch School of Arts graduate later photographed being led out of the building by the police in handcuffs at about 9:25am, wearing a black T-shirt and green sports shorts.
He later denied to reporters outside the nearby 10th Precinct on West 20th Street that he had called the cops and refused to give details as to what had happened, before describing the incident as ‘a misunderstanding’ while police shut the car door, according to the outlet.
Reedus was born to his famous parents, both 56, in October 1999, and was named after his dad’s favourite jazz musician, Charles Mingus.
Norman and Helena met through a mutual friend a year prior and were together until 2003.
Reedus – also an aspiring musician – has been modelling since 2017, walking the runway for designers including Calvin Klein, Versace and Tommy Hilfiger.
He’s also worked alongside his mother, including for the 2021 Victoria’s Secret Mother’s Day campaign.
Reedus has a younger half-sister, Nova, six, through his dad and his dad’s fiancée, Diane Kruger.
In September 2021 he was previously arrested for assaulting a 24-year-old woman during New York’s San Gennaro festival in the Little Italy area of the city.
The woman – who wasn’t identified publicly – claimed Reedus had punched her in the face after a verbal confrontation, with police reporting that she was injured below her left eye and taken to hospital in a stable confrontation.
The incident occurred just a week after Reedus made his debut on the cover of Vogue Hommes, the male edition of the iconic fashion magazine.
Reedus accepted a plea deal in March 2022 for the lesser charge of disorderly conduct but had previously insisted to The New York Daily News he ‘threw his arm out’ to protect himself and accidentally hit the woman after alleging she and her friends came after his group.
‘It was instinct,’ he told the publication. ‘I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group.’
His attorney Isabelle Kirshner had also called the 2021 charges ‘baseless’ and added that her client ‘was the victim in this incident’.
Reedus was sentenced with a conditional discharge for the September 2021 incident, which according to the publication required him to stay out of trouble for 12 months and participate in a minimum of five counselling sessions.
