Munn recalled she struggled with postpartum anxiety after welcoming her son Malcom in November 2021. She detailed how it lasted roughly a year, and she was then diagnosed with cancer mere months later.
âIt was a whole other perspective, because I had been struggling with life in postpartum, and now I was so desperate to stay alive,â she told the outlet. âFrom the moment I received my diagnosis, it just became a march forward.â
Munn Went Through IVF While Battling Cancer
While battling cancer, Munn said she wanted to have another child with her comedian husband John Mulaney.
After multiple surgeries, the “Your Friends & Neighbors” actress told PEOPLE she had an incredibly small window of time to undergo IVF for an egg retrieval before having to undergo more surgery.
Munn said she was worried at the time, but she knew she wanted to do it.
âWhat happens if I canât carry?â Munn said. âThere were all these unknowns, but I knew where I wanted to go: alive on the other side, healthy, energetic, with a baby on the way.â
The retrieval was successful and she later welcomed her daughter Méi via surrogacy.
âItâs so crazy to think that Iâm sitting here with two amazing babies,â Munn added. âIâm just so happy and grateful, and Iâm really proud of what Iâve been able to do. I didnât know how much strength I had inside me.â
She added how she hopes she can maintain her health throughout the years.
âIâm so grateful to be on the other side. Everything feels easy in a way,â Munn said. âI feel so at peace. If I can stay happy and healthy, then I just want to sail into the rest of my life.âÂ
Mulaney Praised Munn for Being ‘Her Greatest Best Self’
Mulaney shared details on Munn’s strength and resilience while appearing on Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson’s podcast “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” on May 20.
Looking back on her battle, he said it’s weird to look at photos from that time.
âI always look back to when she was diagnosed in April, through that whole year, she wasnât just courageous. She was fun,” he told the two. “We had so much fun, it was so weird. So, it wasnât just the courage of it. She also was just always her greatest, best self throughout it.â
