Olivia Munn has revealed an emotional glimpse into her battle with breast cancer, posting a personal video of herself and husband John Mulaney just moments before she underwent a double mastectomy.
The actress, 45, shared the footage on Instagram in honor of World Breast Cancer Research Day on Aug. 18.

In the intimate clip, Munn is seen lying in her hospital bed, hooked up to machines and preparing for surgery. Mulaney, 42, sits beside her wearing a mask, holding her hands tightly.
At one point, Munn reaches out and touches Mulaneyâs cheek before the couple press their foreheads together in a quiet moment.
âRight before I was wheeled in for my double mastectomy, the first of 5 surgeries I would have in a determined [battle] to beat breast cancer,â Munn captioned the post.
Munn went on to stress the critical role of research in treatment advancements. âMy breast cancer and my motherâs breast cancer are both very aggressive, fast-moving cancers,” she wrote. “And because of funding for breast cancer research we both had a path to survival.â
Raising Awareness Through Research
The actress also credited endocrine therapy, a treatment discovered only 20 years ago, as part of her current care plan. âItâs a hormone therapy that works to keep hormones from reaching cancer cells, which is a treatment plan Iâm currently on,â she explained.
She closed her post with words of encouragement: âTo anyone whoâs going through cancer [or] had gone through cancer, I stand side by side with you and wishing you luck and strength every step of the way. ð¤â
Fans quickly filled the comments with messages of support. One person shared, âI am having my double mastectomy tomorrow. Thank you for sharing your story. I am nervous but determined to also have the same outcome!!â Another wrote, âI go in for my double mastectomy on Wednesday! Thank you for everything youâre doing to help our cause ð.â
Munn first shared her breast cancer diagnosis in March 2024 in a separate Instagram post, writing simply, “I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey.”
The actress has since spoken candidly about her journey, which has included a mastectomy, multiple reconstructive procedures, a lymph node dissection, and a hysterectomy. Her remarkable transparency has not only raised awareness but also fostered solidarity among those facing similar battles.
