A Harry Potter legend has confirmed they will be reprising their beloved role in the upcoming TV reboot.

Filming is already underway for the highly anticipated HBO revival of the wizarding saga, with casting already revealed for characters like Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Albus Dumbledore.

Now, another Hogwarts professor has been revealed with a familiar face returning to the franchise.

Warwick Davis will be back as charms Professor Filius Flitwick, the role he originated in the film series, while he’s passing on Gringotts banker Griphook to Leigh Hill.

The news was announced as part of Back to Hogwarts on September 1, an annual celebration for fans which marks students starting at the fictional school of witchcraft and wizardry.

As well as Warwick’s return, the latest casting has also unveiled Sirine Saba taking on the role of Professor Pomona Sprout.

What you need to know about the Harry Potter TV reboot

  • When is the Harry Potter reboot going to air? The first season based on the Philosopher’s Stone is set to air in 2027
  • Who’s in the cast? A wealth of stars have already been announced for the cast, including Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton as Harry, Ron and Hermione respectively. Big names like John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape) and more have also been confirmed.
  • What channel will the show be on? The show is heading to HBO in the US. It’s likely to air on Sky/Now in the UK, but that’s not confirmed
  • Is JK Rowling involved? Yes, JK Rowling is involved, and previously revealed she had seen some early scripts.

We already know Dominic McLaughlin is taking the role of the titular character Harry, stepping into Daniel Radcliffe’s famous shoes, having appeared alongside Game of Thrones’ Indira Varma in a Shakespearean production of Macbeth.

Meanwhile, it’s highly unlikely the original Harry, Hermione and Ron – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, or Rupert Grint – will make cameo appearances, given their very public criticism of author JK Rowling’s stance on transgender rights, which has sparked criticism of the new TV adaptation.

While some actors have sworn off ever considering a role given the writer’s opinions, others have not.
