Oscar-Nominated Actress Passes Away & Tributes Pour In

Diane Ladd, Laura Dern

Beloved actress Diane Ladd, known for films such as “Wild at Heart” and “Chinatown,” has sadly passed away. Ladd, the mother of actress Laura Dern, was 89 at the time of her passing. Now, not only has Dern issued a statement, but many are paying tribute to her legacy.

PEOPLE obtained a statement from Dern regarding the passing of her mother. She said, “My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother, Diane Ladd, passed with me beside her this morning, at her home in Ojai, Calif.”

She continued, “She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist, and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”

Ladd was born in 1935 and was a native of Laurel, Mississippi. She is an only child but went on to have two daughters.


Many Are Flocking to Social Media to Pay Tribute to Ladd

Ladd began her legendary acting career in the late 1940s and appeared in more than 140 roles. As a result, many of her fans are taking to social media to offer kind words about her legacy. Additionally, several fans are offering condolences to Dern.

One person said on X, “RIP to “Lula’s Mamma!” Diane Ladd was incredible in Wild at Heart. I had been trying to interview her for my upcoming WAH book. I am sad I missed out on capturing her stories.”

Someone else noted, “RIP to Diane Ladd…and my condolences to @LauraDern and the rest of her family at this time 😔”

Another fan wrote, “Oh no—I loved Diane Ladd—may she rest in peace—thinking of her daughter Laura Dern and the rest of her family 🙏🏻”

Someone else stated, “There are few performances better than Diane Ladd’s performance in Wild at Heart. Playing opposite her daughter, Laura Dern, Ladd encapsulated desperation better than anyone else I’ve ever seen on the big screen. Rest in peace.”


She Will Be Missed

Ladd received an outstanding three Oscar nominations throughout her decades-long career. The first came for her 1974 film “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.” Next, she scored one for the 1990 film “Wild at Heart,” and then for “Rambling Rose” from the following year.

She remained relatively active in Hollywood leading up to her passing. According to IMDb, Ladd appeared in “Isle of Hope” in 2022 and Harmark’s “Chesapeake Shores.” She will be missed, but her legacy will live on forever.
