Caitriona Balfe Spills On ‘Outlander’ Season 8
While promoting her new film “The Amateur,” Balfe sat down with CBR and shared some insights into the upcoming season of “Outlander. Though she stayed careful not to reveal too much, Balfe confirmed that fans can expect closure.
âI think we see more of the relationships,â she said. âThereâs a lot of loose ends that get sort of tied up, and I hope that those are kind of satisfying conclusions for people.â
The actress, who has played Claire Randall since the series debuted in 2014, also reflected on the emotions of filming the final season. âIt was such an emotional season to film, and there were so many goodbyes to places and people that we’ve loved for so long,â Balfe admitted. âI just really hope that itâs a satisfying tribute to our fans, because we would never have been on air for that long without them.â
When asked whether Claire would display any new magical abilities in the final episodes, Balfe jokingly replied, âI don’t know what I can say, or somebody swoops in and kills me.â While her response was lighthearted, itâs clear sheâs protecting the final seasonâs surprises.
Everything We Know About ‘Outlander’s Final Season
Starzâs time-travel drama will officially conclude with a 10-episode eighth season, set to (hopefully) premiere in late 2025. While an exact date hasnât been announced, filming wrapped in late 2024, with post-production finishing this spring. Jamie Fraser himself, Sam Heughan, even revealed on Instagram in March that he had completed âthe last ADRâ (dialogue re-recording) for the series finale.
The final season is expected to largely follow Diana Gabaldonâs “Written in My Own Heartâs Blood” (Book 8), though showrunner Matthew B. Roberts confirmed to TVLine that some elements from later books may also appear. âNothing that doesnât affect Jamie and Claire gets in,â Roberts emphasized. âItâs gotta affect Jamie and Claire.â
One major storyline fans are eager to see resolved is the season seven cliffhanger involving Claire and Jamieâs daughter, Faith. Though presumed stillborn in season two, Roberts promised that season eight will finally address this lingering mystery âvisually.â
Meanwhile, other fan-favorite characters may experience life-changing moments as well. Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna, hinted that Brianna and Roger might expand their family. âWe sometimes stick to the books, and we sometimes donât,â Skelton told TVLine. âBut I think it would be great if they had another child.â
Ahead of the final season, fans can also look forward to the “Outlander” prequel “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” premiering on August 8 on Starz.
