Fans of “Outlander” are enduring another Droughtlander, but Starz is giving them something to celebrate. In honor of World Outlander Day, the network hosted a special livestream event titled “Outlander & Blood of My Blood: The Gathering.”

The June 1 event united the casts of both “Outlander” and the highly anticipated prequel, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood.” The gathering, which streamed on Starz’s YouTube channel, gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the next chapter in the beloved franchise based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novels.

Stars Reflect on “Outlander” and Welcome the Prequel Cast

Ahead of the livestream, Starz released a teaser featuring series leads Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan meeting the younger actors who will portray their characters’ parents in the upcoming prequel. “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” will follow two intertwined love stories — those of Julia Moriston (played by Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) in World War I England, and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) in 18th-century Scotland.

Balfe, who portrays Claire Fraser in the flagship series, shared her gratitude for the show’s success and the support from Starz. “I think we’ve been so spoiled to have so many years of the show doing so well and being promoted so well,” she said during the event. “Every single year, Starz have been so amazing and they’ve put these massive billboards up and it’s almost like you start to get used to it, until you realize this may never happen again and it’s a really amazing thing that we’ve been a part of.”

She also offered words of encouragement to the prequel cast: “I hope you guys get to have the same experiences for a very long time because it’s really very special and it’s not to be taken for granted.”

The New Generation Steps Into the “Outlander” World

Harriet Slater, who will play Ellen MacKenzie in “Blood of My Blood,” expressed her excitement and admiration for the original cast. “I just want to say congratulations because you’ve made such an incredible show,” she said. “It’s so rare for a show to go on that long these days. I feel like things are cancelled left, right and centre, so it’s amazing that you’ve made this and it’s so loved. I feel very proud to be joining, and we’ve got some big boots to fill.”

Heughan, who plays “Outlander’s” Jamie Fraser, voiced his support as well. “We’re actually going to be the biggest fans of your show,” he told the prequel cast. “Honestly, I can’t wait to see all the younger versions of ourselves or the characters we love.”

Heughan also took a moment to thank the creative team behind the franchise: “A big thank you to our showrunners and writers, Diana Gabaldon who… she was the beginning of all this stuff. Good luck and we’re rooting for you.”

“Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” a 10-episode limited series, will premiere on August 8. The prequel promises to dive deep into the romantic journeys of Claire and Jamie’s parents — offering fans a rich new layer of the “Outlander” universe.
