Patrick and Brittany Mahomes Used Metal-Themed Names Long Before Their Children

Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany have officially become a party of five! The couple recently welcomed their third child, Golden Raye, adding another little one to their growing team, which also includes son, Patrick “Bronze” Lavone Mahomes III and big sis Sterling Skye. The Mahomes are clearly fans of bold, metallic-inspired names—but it turns out their unique baby name trend didn’t start with their kids.

Before Sterling and before Bronze, the Mahomes family’s love for metallic-themed names started with their four-legged friends—Steel and Silver.

Steel, a pitbull, was the first to join the Mahomes household, according to Distractify. Patrick once described him on social media as “an awesome dog—very loving, very energetic,” even calling him his best friend. The bond between Mahomes and Steel was clear, and it didn’t take long for Brittany to bring another pup into the picture. That’s when Silver, a Cane Corso, entered the scene.

When the couple adopted Silver, they were on the hunt for a name that paired well with Steel. “Sterling” came up, and they liked it so much they decided to save it—for a future child.

“When we got Silver, we were trying to think of a name that goes with Steel. We thought of Sterling and I said no, when I have a daughter one day I want that to be her name,” Matthews explained to People. “So then we came up with Silver instead for our pup. So now we have Steel, Silver, and Sterling.”

That left “Silver” as the perfect name for their second dog, keeping with the theme and setting the tone for a very shiny family naming tradition.

The pups didn’t just win over their famous owners—they became fan favorites too. With the Kansas City Chiefs’ growing dominance and Patrick’s rise to superstardom, Steel and Silver began gaining attention on their own. Eventually, they earned their own Instagram account, where they now boast over 200,000 followers!

The Metallic Name Trend Didn’t Stop With the Dogs

What started with Steel and Silver quickly grew into a full-blown family naming trend. In 2021, the Mahomes welcomed their first child, a daughter named Sterling Skye. Then in 2022, their son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III was born—continuing the metallic motif in style.

But the Mahomes weren’t done yet.

In January 2024, while Patrick was laser-focused on leading the Chiefs to another Super Bowl appearance, he and Brittany had even bigger news off the field: baby number three was on the way.

Fans, well aware of the family’s shiny name game, flooded social media with guesses. The most popular prediction? “Goldie.” And as it turns out, they were close.

On January 12, 2025, the Mahomes welcomed their second daughter, Golden Raye, officially sealing their metallic naming legacy with gold.
