Patrick Mahomes Wants to Turn Kelceâs Movie Debut Into a Team-Bonding Night
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is heading into his 13th NFL season, but thatâs not the only spotlight heâll be stepping into. The fan-favorite athlete is trading the gridiron for the big screen with a role in the upcoming comedy sequel âHappy Gilmore 2ââand teammate Mahomes is all in on supporting him.
Mahomes recently appeared on âUp and Adamsâ and revealed he plans to make Kelceâs film debut a team affair. âHappy Gilmore, iconic movie in my childhood. Having Travis Kelce in thereâand Iâve heard his part is great, he wonât tell me a lotâI want to rent out a movie theater and let it be a team bonding experience,â Mahomes shared.
While some fans speculated about Kelce’s future in football during the offseason, Mahomes shut down retirement rumors, telling reporters at organized team activities that Kelce looks more focused than ever.
âIf itâs the last ride, you would never know,â Mahomes told NFL reporters. âThe way heâs talking about football, the way heâs talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year. He doesnât seem like a guy whoâs tired of the job.â
Travis Kelce on ‘Happy Gilmore 2’: ‘That Was a Dream Come True’
For Kelce, getting the chance to act alongside Adam Sandler in âHappy Gilmore 2â was a full-circle moment. The NFL star spoke about the experience on âThe Pat McAfee Showâ and didnât hold back on his excitement.
âThat was a dream come true,â Kelce said. âI thought ‘SNL’ was going to be the peak of my acting and showman or entertainment career ⦠working with Happy Gilmore himself, the Sandman and Happy Productions, it was off the chain.â
He continued, âTheyâre so professional and yet so fun to work with. I felt like I was working with like the Andy Reid of the acting world. [Sandler] is every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen. That was a dream come true. That was awesome.â
Kelce revealed that he filmed âa few scenesâ during the Chiefsâ bye week and said he has a âpretty hefty loadâ in the film. While exact details about his role remain under wraps, fans can expect to see plenty of Kelceâs trademark charisma in the upcoming sequel.
Fans can catch Kelce when “Happy Gilmore 2” premieres July 25 on Netflix.
