Patrick Mahomes Wants to Turn Kelce’s Movie Debut Into a Team-Bonding Night

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is heading into his 13th NFL season, but that’s not the only spotlight he’ll be stepping into. The fan-favorite athlete is trading the gridiron for the big screen with a role in the upcoming comedy sequel “Happy Gilmore 2”—and teammate Mahomes is all in on supporting him.

Mahomes recently appeared on “Up and Adams” and revealed he plans to make Kelce’s film debut a team affair. “Happy Gilmore, iconic movie in my childhood. Having Travis Kelce in there—and I’ve heard his part is great, he won’t tell me a lot—I want to rent out a movie theater and let it be a team bonding experience,” Mahomes shared.

While some fans speculated about Kelce’s future in football during the offseason, Mahomes shut down retirement rumors, telling reporters at organized team activities that Kelce looks more focused than ever.

“If it’s the last ride, you would never know,” Mahomes told NFL reporters. “The way he’s talking about football, the way he’s talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year. He doesn’t seem like a guy who’s tired of the job.”

Travis Kelce on ‘Happy Gilmore 2’: ‘That Was a Dream Come True’

For Kelce, getting the chance to act alongside Adam Sandler in “Happy Gilmore 2” was a full-circle moment. The NFL star spoke about the experience on “The Pat McAfee Show” and didn’t hold back on his excitement.

“That was a dream come true,” Kelce said. “I thought ‘SNL’ was going to be the peak of my acting and showman or entertainment career … working with Happy Gilmore himself, the Sandman and Happy Productions, it was off the chain.”

He continued, “They’re so professional and yet so fun to work with. I felt like I was working with like the Andy Reid of the acting world. [Sandler] is every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen. That was a dream come true. That was awesome.”

Kelce revealed that he filmed “a few scenes” during the Chiefs’ bye week and said he has a “pretty hefty load” in the film. While exact details about his role remain under wraps, fans can expect to see plenty of Kelce’s trademark charisma in the upcoming sequel.

Fans can catch Kelce when “Happy Gilmore 2” premieres July 25 on Netflix.
