From “Pirates” to “Day Drinker”
Depp, 62, and Cruz, 51, are currently filming “Day Drinker”, their fourth film together after “Blow” (2001), “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” (2011), and “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017).

Directed by Marc Webb, the upcoming thriller “Day Drinker” follows Deppâs character, a mysterious guest aboard a private yacht, who crosses paths with a bartender (played by Madelyn Cline).
Things take a darker turn when Cruzâs character â a criminal figure â enters the picture. As per Deadline, “Day Drinker” follows a bartender (Madelyn Cline) aboard a private yacht who crosses paths with a mysterious guest (Johnny Depp). The two are soon caught in the web of a criminal figure (Penélope Cruz), with secrets and connections that take an unexpected turn.
The cast also includes Manu RÃos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle.
A Return to Hollywood for Depp
“Day Drinker” marks Deppâs first major studio project since “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (2018), after the high-profile and publicized defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.
Depp has also starred in the French-language film “Jeanne du Barr” and directed “Modi”, which premiered at the 2023 San Sebastian Film Festival.
Cruz and Deppâs Friendship
The two Oscar-nominated actors have shared a close friendship for decades. In court documents, Cruz previously praised Deppâs character, saying: âMany years have passed and I have not only made three movies with him, but I also count on him as a great friend,â she wrote.

âIâve always been impressed by his kindness, his brilliant mind, his talent and his peculiar sense of humor.â
