Pete Wicks has revealed that he may have to undergo surgery because a health condition from childhood is returning.
The 37-year-old TOWIE alum told co-host Sam Thompson, 32, in the latest episode of their podcast that his friend had spotted an issue with his eye.
He revealed: ‘I may have to go back to having an eye patch.’
The podcaster continued: ‘I’m going to tell the truth here.
‘I used to be called Pirate Pete, it’s a weird nickname, but actually it was my mum that first called me that when I was a kid because I had a lazy eye when I used to get tired.’
Sam laughed at this revelation, to which Pete responded, playfully: ‘Why are we laughing at my affliction?
‘So I had this eye patch to try to correct it, which it did, so that was great.’
Yet he added: ‘The bad eye is coming back as I’m getting older, it’s going for a walk.’
Sam then asked: ‘So what are you going to do?’ to which Pete replied: ‘I have to go and see an eye specialist to see whether or not we can re-train it or whether I am going to have some kind of surgery.’
Sam said, shocked: ‘They are going to get rid of the eyeball!’
Pete then clarified: ‘I’m not going to have it removed.’
He then admitted close pal and Love Island alum Liv Attwood had played her part and said: ‘I’ve started noticing, it was Liv that f***ing noticed it.
‘It was Liv that mentioned it then.’
Sam admitted that he had also noticed it: ‘It is getting quite bad.’
Pete continued: ‘Well great, I’m glad I don’t feel conscious about it.’
Pete shared with his fans that his appointment with an eye specialist is in a couple weeks.
Pete’s health update comes after his recent split from Maura Higgins. The pair’s fiery connection fizzled out not long before Valentine’s Day and have not been seen together since.
But after another brief period of bachelorhood, it seems Pete has a new lady in his life after getting to know Samantha Kenny.
The 27-year-old was a contestant on series 11 of the ITV2 dating show last year, which aired around the time Pete and Maura’s relationship became public knowledge.
Samantha was sadly dumped from the Majorcan villa after just over two weeks, having been given the brush-off by Joey Essex when Grace Jackson entered as a bombshell.
But if reports are to be believed, she’s since been able to find a special someone outside it.
Pete has reportedly been seen out clubbing in London with Samantha.
They hugged outside Mayfair hotspot Amazonico club at the end of March, but it’s unknown if they’ve had any other outings since.
A source told The Sun: ‘Pete and Samantha have gone on a few dates and have really hit it off.
‘She’s got a wicked sense of humour and is absolutely gorgeous.’
The insider added that ‘Samantha is a fresh start for Pete,’ who was reportedly ‘relieved’ to be away from the drama when ex-girlfriend Maura was caught kissing married McFly star Danny Jones at the Brit Awards, weeks after their breakup.
