Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller have starred together in several popular comedic films, including “Zoolander,” “The Cable Guy,” and “Night at the Museum.” Their brand of comedy may be the same, but the pair are also friends offscreen, and they gave a rare glimpse into their friendship when they appeared at the US Open on August 29.

Stiller was also photographed at the sporting event chatting with actor Tom Pecinka.

Also at the event, Stiller showed a fan his appreciation by posing for pictures with her at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

Owen Wilson & Ben Stiller’s Friendship

The friendship between Stiller and Wilson began in the ‘90s, but even before they became friends, Stiller had let Wilson know he was a fan of his work and was eager to collaborate in the future. “I think it was when he saw ‘Bottle Rocket.’ He wrote me the nicest letter, saying how much he loved the movie, which meant a great deal, because no one saw ‘Bottle Rocket,’” Wilson said of Stiller, The Mirror reports. “Bottle Rocket” is a 1996 film that stars Wilson.

In the letter, Stiller wrote that “He hoped [they] might work together on something, some day,’ and that sure came to pass,” Wilson said.

Wilson also discussed their friendship, giving a glimpse into their bond. “I don’t know if the relationship has developed over time. It’s a little like these characters [in Zoolander]. There isn’t a big arc. From when we first became friends, walking around New York, I think that we are still sort of laughing at the same things and our dynamic is still pretty similar.”

Wilson and Stiller have publicly supported each other throughout the years, with Stiller voicing his support for Wilson after he was hospitalized in 2007. “He’s doing really well,” Stiller told Ellen DeGeneres, People reports. He continued, “I sort of like to protect his privacy, ’cause I feel like it’s his own thing. But he’s a really good friend of mine. He’s an incredible guy and I wish him as everybody does, all the best.”
