PHOTOS: John Travolta in a Nature Photo Shoot From 1970

John Travolta is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s biggest stars of the last half-century. His breakout role in “Grease” propelled him into the limelight and he continued as an established leading man in everything from “Urban Cowboy” and “Blow Out” to “Saturday Night Fever.” Having originally started his career on television with the show “Welcome Back, Kotter,” and in off-Broadway theater productions, his career faced something of a downturn throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s.

In fact, it wasn’t until his starring role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” in 1994 that Travolta saw a career revival. Acting opposite Samuel L. Jackson as Vincent Vega, Travolta proved once again that he could be a leading man and added to his extensive collection of awards, including two Academy Award nominations.

Now, photographs of the star from right at the start of his career show just how little he has changed over the years.

Travolta began his acting career in the early 1970s. At the age of 16, he dropped out of high school and began auditioning for acting roles. These photographs, taken from the Michael Ochs Archives, are from circa 1970, indicating that they are from when he first began pursuing acting as a career as a teenager.

All of the black and white images show Travolta in outdoor settings and are professional photographs presumably taken to help him land work and showcase his look, including his signature long hair.

In the first image, Travolta can be seen casually sitting on a wall in front of a small street light, with his leg hanging over the side.

Travolta Has Taken A Step Back From Acting

In recent years, Travolta has taken a step back from acting. This was largely down to the tragic loss of his wife, Kelly Preston, who died at the age of 57 in 2020 following a breast cancer diagnosis two years earlier.

The actor subsequently decided to put his family first and focus on being a father to his children following the death of their mother. This is the second heartbreaking tragedy to affect the Travolta family, with his son Jett passing away from a seizure when he was just 16 years old.

However, Travolta will be making a return to the big screen in the upcoming survival thriller “Black Tides.” He will star alongside his daughter Ella Bleu Travolta, with the 25-year-old acting opposite her father for the third time after outings in “Old Dogs” and “The Poison Rose.”
