Piers Morgan has been accused of spreading ‘fake news’ after making a bold claim about his interview with Kevin Spacey.

The Uncensored host, 59, is no stranger to contraversial interviews, having recently grilled Baby Reindeer’s ‘real Martha’ Fiona Harvey.

He’s now announced an interview with House of Cards actor Spacey, 64, will be going live on Tuesday night, after he was was acquitted last year of 12 sexual offences alleged by four men between 2001 and 2013.

Morgan declared on X: ‘UPDATE: Just finished an astounding 90-minute interview with ⁦@KevinSpacey⁩ .

‘His first in-studio interview for 7yrs. It will premiere on our ⁦@PiersUncensored⁩ YouTube channel at 8pm UK time tomorrow. You won’t want to miss this…’

Followers were quick to note one mistake Morgan seemed to have made, after he claimed it was Spacey’s ‘first in-studio interview’.

Just days ago, podcaster Lex Fridman published an interview with Spacey on his own YouTube channel and podcast, titled: ‘Kevin Spacey: Power, Controversy, Betrayal, Truth & Love in Film and Life.’

Correcting Morgan’s post, @Chusidel commented: ‘Great! Didn’t @lexfridman beat you to this by a few days? Technically, that interview was also conducted in a studio.’

@WutFoxSays added: ‘He did appear on Lex …. so I guess his podcast “room” does not count as a studio.’

‘Impressive! Hasn’t @lexfridman already covered this topic a few days ago? In fact, that particular interview was also held within a studio setting,’ @EX1LEISR echoed.

@travers7 also said: ‘He already told all on the Lex Fridman podcast..’

@Darrinotoole added: ‘Fake news, @lexfridman had that. Don’t be that guy Piers.’

In Fridman’s podcast, the two-time Oscar winning actor spoke of the allegations against him, for which he was acquitted.

He said: ‘I have heard, now and often, that everyone has a Kevin Spacey story, and what that tells me is that I hit on a lot of guys.’

He denied doing ‘anything sexual with an under age person’ and said: ‘I did a lot of things that at the time I thought were playful and fun, and I have learned since were not.

‘I have had to recognise that I crossed some boundaries and did some things that were wrong and made some mistakes, and that’s in my past.’

He went on to say he’s ‘so romantic’ and the allegations have been ‘very upsetting’, insisting he’d ‘never, ever, ever behave in those ways again’.

One civil case brought against Spacey wasa by Rent star Anthony Rapp who alleged Spacey had molested him when he was 14. Spacey won the case in October 2022.

Last month, Spacey claimed film bosses were blocking his acting career, after a two-part Channel 4 documentary titled Spacey Unmasked aired.

‘I do think the British public are more mature than Channel 4, and I believe every time I have come back to London we are stopped by so many people who are so kind and say such generous things.

‘And if there was a theme to what they are talking about it is this: “When are you going back to work? This has gone too far”,’ Spacey told The Telegraph.

Spacey also questioned why the the industry has not been more welcoming towards him since his acquittal.

‘I find it confusing that I am in an industry in which a great number of its most celebrated individuals spend a tremendous amount of time talking about how important redemption is and extend a remarkable path for people who served in prison and did their time,’ he said.

‘We see so many people talk with so much empathy about how these individuals should be given a path back, and isn’t it ironic and strange that the same path doesn’t seem available if you are in the industry itself.’

Producer and filmmaker Katherine Haywood who made Channel 4’s Spacey Unmasked insisted to Metro.co.uk she wanted to keep the documentary as balanced and fair as possible.

‘There are no monsters and there are no saints,’ she shared. ‘Everybody’s a mix of everything.’

Metro.co.uk has approached Piers Morgan’s reps for comment.
