Piper Perabo Praises Stepdaughter Lilli Kay’s Talent: ‘I’m So Proud of Her’

Piper Perabo and Lilli Kay may have only shared one scene on “Yellowstone,” but the actress doesn’t need a lot of scenes with her stepdaughter to know that the 29-year-old is talented. With Perabo starring in Prime Video’s “Butterfly” and Kay starring in the Apple TV+ series “Stick,” Perabo expresses her pride in her former co-star and how they support each other.

While the “Coyote Ugly” star is getting ready for the premiere of “Butterfly,” a second season was greenlit for Kay’s show, “Stick.”

“I’m so proud of her,” Perabo told People. “She plays a gender nonconforming caddy and I think that show is so great. Owen Wilson is so amazing. It’s one of those summer shows that’s just a gem. I love it so much.”

Kay’s onscreen acting debut may not have happened until 2018’s “Paterno,” but with actor and director Stephen Kay as her father, Hollywood has been a part of her world her entire life.

“I don’t really need to give her advice,” she said. “She’s really talented and studied a lot. Lilli is so good. But we read scripts to each other and we talk about work and we’re collaborators.”

Uncompromising and Authentic: Kay Dives Deep as Non-Binary Bartender Zero

Kay stars alongside Wilson, Peter Dager, and Judy Greer in “Stick.” The show centers around Wilson’s character, Pryce Cahill, a former golfer whose very public meltdown during a tournament ended his career. He decides to mentor Santi Wheeler (played by Dager), a troubled teen who could be the next great golfer with a bit of guidance.

Kay plays a non-binary bartender named Zero, who becomes Santi’s caddy. Kay told “Deadline Hollywood” that her favorite thing about Zero was that she’s “uncompromising in her values.”

“If Zero believes something, they believe it with their whole heart, and they stand on that ground,” Kay explained.

In “Yellowstone,” Kay appeared in eight episodes of Season 5. She played Clara Brewer, the assistant of John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner). She famously shared the show’s first LGBTQ+ kiss with her real-life partner, model Juli Kocemba.

“We were in our Covid protocol,” Kay previously told Deadline. “It was written that Clara is making out with someone in the background behind John and Summer. And we were trying to figure out who was easy and comfortable [to cast] who was also in the testing cycle.”

“My partner, Juli Kocemba, was there with me in Montana so they said, ‘oh, let’s just have you guys make out in the background,’” she continued. “My partner’s non-binary, so we were like, ‘well it’s a gender fluid make-out in the background.’ We thought, ‘nobody’s gonna make a big deal about it.’ And then a lot of people made a very big deal about it.”
