After last week’s horror themed Pokémon trailer, a much tamer one has debuted Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s third new mega evolution.
Although mega evolutions were teased to be making a return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, back when it was announced in 2024, The Pokémon Company has only recently begun introducing new forms ahead of the game’s October launch.
A lot of effort is being put into showing off the new mega evolutions. Just last week, a pre-rendered trailer made to look like a found footage horror movie was shared to announce Mega Victreebel, which went down a treat with fans.
Earlier today, another trailer dropped, only this time it was a short animation depicting a professional wrestling match between two fighting pokémon, with one of them debuting a fancy new mega evolution.
The match was teased beforehand, to be between Hawlucha and Machamp, which naturally sparked theories that one of them would be getting the mega evolution treatment.
Turns out it’s the former, with Mega Hawlucha doubling down on the pokémon’s luchador inspirations with a gold and black mask, a feathery belt, and a bulkier frame.

Compared to the deliberately ugly Mega Victreebel, Mega Hawlucha appears to be proving far less controversial among Pokémon fans. A post showing off its appearance on the Pokémon subreddit has nearly 4,000 upvotes at the time of writing, with fans describing it as ‘majestic’ and ‘glorious.’
One fan thinks it’s ‘the best of the bunch’ so far while another hopes this means more pokémon that debuted in Pokémon X and Y will see mega evolutions too. Strangely, despite X and Y debuting mega evolution, only one of the new pokémon it introduced – Diancie – ever received a mega evolution.
Every mega evolution confirmed for Pokémon Legends: Z-A
At the time of writing, only three entirely new mega evolutions have been announced for Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Mega Hawlucha, Mega Victreebel, and Mega Dragonite.
Hopefully, all 48 of the previous mega evolutions from X and Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire will be included as well but, in the meantime, only 17 of them have been explicitly shown in the game, either through gameplay footage or screenshots:
- Mega Absol
- Mega Altaria
- Mega Ampharos
- Mega Banette
- Mega Charizard X
- Mega Charizard Y
- Mega Gardevoir
- Mega Gyarados
- Mega Kangaskhan
- Mega Lopunny
- Mega Lucario
- Mega Mawile
- Mega Sableye
- Mega Scizor
- Mega Slowbro
- Mega Steelix
- Mega Tyranitar
No doubt Pokémon Legends: Z-A will feature plenty more new ones, as it’s theorised that the final evolutions of the game’s three starters – Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile – will receive new forms.
Frequent Pokémon leaker CentroLeaks did previously share an alleged list of every new mega evolution in the game back in March, which has proven accurate so far.
We won’t share the full list in case you don’t want to be spoiled but, if you’re not that bothered, you can view it for yourself over on X.
