Olivia Rodrigo has made history with her album SOUR becoming the first to surpass 14 billion streams on Spotify.

The musician, 21, has beat out the likes of Taylor Swift and Beyonce with her debut album becoming the all-time highest streaming album by a female artist on Spotify.

Released on May 21 2021, debut album SOUR was the most streamed LP of the year, breaking records as the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist in Spotify history – amassing over 385 million global streams in that time.

In the years following, the album – which includes hit songs Drivers License and Deja Vu – has continued to build momentum.

Power ballad Drivers License spent nine weeks on top of the UK singles chart, breaking the record for fastest song to reach 100 million streams on Spotify.

And, with the album sitting pretty at 14 billion streams (and counting!) Olivia has cemented her place in music history.

As the news was shared by X account Pop Base on the social media site, fans in the comments shared their thoughts on the milestone.

‘She deserves it. she is so talented. would definitely go to her eras tour when it comes,’ wrote Universeposity.

‘What’s more powerful than an album breaking streaming records? The message behind it, that a young woman’s pain, vulnerability, and authenticity can resonate with billions. That’s history worth celebrating,’ said youngblesstmoni.

‘The way this album gave us 4 solid timeless hits😭😭’ said beauinurquiver.

‘Gen Z just rewrote music history-Olivia’s debut album is LITERALLY eating everyone else’s lunch. Six tracks with BILLIONS of streams and she did this before turning 25? ICONIC. No one’s touching her rn,’ said SciGodX.

Folllowing Olivia’s meteoric rise fame, many have predicted that she might be in the running to headline this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Last month, a source told The Sun: ‘Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX will all play Glastonbury next summer.

‘Charli will headline The Other Stage and Chappell will be playing the Pyramid Stage.

‘Olivia is coming straight to Worthy Farm after playing BST Hyde Park, so her slot is being firmed up.’

The tabloid’s source claimed that organiser Emily Eavis wanted to go back to Glastonbury’s rock roots with Neil Young and The 1975, but Olivia, Charli, and Chappell’s inlcusion would make a ‘real statement’.

‘Glastonbury always has something for everyone but next summer’s line-up is really impressive in terms of the spectrum of acts and how big they are,’ the source added.

Olivia, meanwhile, has been confirmed to headline BST Hyde Park on Friday, June 27.

While the timing would rule her out from Glastonbury’s opening night, it would leave her weekend free for a performance at the Worthy Farm festival – possibly headlining on Saturday or Sunday.

She previously appeared at the festival in 2022, where she was joined for a performance on the Pyramid Stage by Lily Allen – the first time the Smile singer had performed live since 2019.

Tickets for Olivia at BST Hyde Park go on general sale at 9am GMT on Friday, November 15.
