The PS5 Pro is almost upon us (YouTube)
Just days ahead of the console’s launch, the final PS5 Pro specifications have emerged, along with evidence of improvements to PlayStation 4 games like Bloodborne.
While Sony announced the mid-generation upgrade for the PS5 in September with a lofty £699.99 price tag, the company hasn’t officially released all the details around the PS5 Pro’s specifications and performance.
A bunch of these details leaked months prior, including the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology, but the exact specifics around the GPU and power supply have been much less clear.
Sony still hasn’t officially announced the specs, but with the console now in the hands of retailers, ahead of its launch on Thursday, November 7, these details have now made their way online.
A tech specs list appeared online over the weekend, as circulated by Twitter user and YouTuber brunno_fast, with full details on the GPU and RAM capabilities. You can check out a breakdown of the specifications below, along with comparisons to the original PlayStation 5.
According to Sony, the PS5 Pro boasts an upgraded GPU which has 67% more compute units than the original PlayStation 5 and 28% faster memory, which allows up to 45% faster rendering for smoother gameplay.
PS5 Pro full specs
GPU: 16.7 TFLOPS, RDNA AMD Radeon
RAM: GDDR6 16GB and DDR5 2GB
Power supply: 390W
Internal storage: 2TB SSD
Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 7
Dimensions: Approximately 388mm x 89mm x 216mm
PS5 Pro specs compared to the PS5
Internal storage: 2TB SSD vs 825GB SSD
Power supply: 390W vs 350W
USB ports: Extra USB-C port replaces a USB-A port
RAM: Added 2GB DDR5 memory
As outlined on a PlayStation blog post, the console also comes with advanced ray-tracing and PSSR upscaling technology for improved resolution.
If you want a better look at the system itself, a Brazilian YouTube account has uploaded an entire unboxing of the console and even pulled out the circuit boards for inspection.
While Sony previously announced certain PlayStation 4 games would benefit from the PS5 Pro’s extra power, a new ‘enhance image quality for PS4 games’ toggle has been discovered in the system.
Naturally, those who already have access to the console have tested to see if this provides any improvements to Bloodborne – in light of cries for a remake. While the effects appeared minimal at first, ResetEra users have shared screenshots showing a small, if noticeable, bump in quality when the toggle is switched on.
Sony has announced a bunch of games which will be enhanced on the PS5 Pro at launch, including Alan Wake 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
It’s important to note that unlike the main PlayStation 5 console, the PS5 Pro is digital-only, so you’ll have to purchase an external disc drive for an additional £99.99 if you want to play physical games.
There are some other caveats too. If you want a stand to prop up the PS5 Pro vertically, that’s an extra £24.99, while original PlayStation 5 faceplates are not compatible with the system.
