Sony has announced a State Of Play broadcast will take place this week, but there’s confusion as to what it will showcase.

Sony’s State Of Play presentations are rarely ever a surprise, due to leaks and their usual rollout at specific points of the year, but the company’s latest has caught everyone off guard.

It turns out a special State Of Play Japan is set to take place on Tuesday, November 11 at 10pm GMT. The 40 minute episode will air on PlayStation’s YouTube channel with Japanese audio and English subtitles.

While Japan is in the name of the livestream, the presentation will focus ‘on games created in Japan and across Asia, alongside a few other exciting updates’ – which implies we could see some reveals from Western studios as well.

As detailed on the PlayStation blog, the show will be hosted by voice actor Yuki Kaji, who is best known for his work in anime shows like Attack On Titan. In the gaming world, he’s voiced characters in the Shin Megami Tensei, Final Fantasy, and Fire Emblem franchises.

The blog post also states the show will feature ‘beloved series’ and ‘distinctive indie creations’, which while vague, suggests it will be fairly substantial.

What could appear in the State Of Play Japan?

With the lean on games created in Japan and Asia, it’s likely we’ll see more from Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Developed by Arc System Works, the Sony published fighting game is slated to launch next year, but it doesn’t have a specific release date.

There are several Chinese action games without a release date too, including Phantom Blade Zero and Tides Of Annihilation. Nioh 3 will likely be shown in some capacity, before it lands on February 6, 2026.

Additionally, there’s the Chinese-based free-to-play role player Where Winds Meet, which is set to launch in the West on Friday, November 14.

Inevitably, fans are clutching to wild hopes too, with updates on the Persona 4 remake, Kingdom Hearts 4, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, and (dare we say it) Bloodborne being the most requested. None of those are likely though.

Prior to this announcement, there have been rumours of a digital PlayStation 5 console exclusive to Japan, which will be region locked and sold at ¥50,000 (£246). This would be a ¥20,000 (£99) discount from the current price, and would make it competitive with the Japanese-language only version of the Switch 2, which costs ¥49,980.

While there’s no guarantee that’s what will be revealed, it certainly makes sense from Sony’s perspective, given the Switch 2’s popularity in Japan. According to the original rumour, this digital-only console is expected to launch on November 21, 2025.
