Queen Latifah made a rare public outing with her son, Rebel, at the New York Liberty game against the Connecticut Sun this week.
The 55-year-old actor and musician was courtside at Barclays Center, smiling alongside her 6-year-old during the Libertyâs 81-79 win, according to Page Six.
Latifah kept her look casual in baggy jeans, a floral tunic, a flat-brim Adidas cap and layered jewelry that included a two-tone Rolex.
Rebel wore a light blue Liberty jersey with Sabrina Ionescuâs No. 20, a sweatshirt tied at his waist, brown pants and white sneakers.
Latifah shares Rebel, born in 2019, with longtime partner and choreographer Eboni Nichols.
The couple has kept their family life private, making sightings of their son unusual.
Previous appearances have included a Lakers game in March and a trip to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His first public outing came at a Harlem Globetrotters game in 2023.
Balancing Privacy and Family Moments
Latifah has occasionally offered glimpses into her family life.
She previously told PEOPLE how she always wanted to enter into motherhood.
She told the outlet that she was a âlate bloomerâ when it came to starting a family, saying the timing allowed her to grow into the role.
âIâve always envisioned myself with a big family, Iâm a late bloomer. Iâm a late bloomer with a lot of things and you know â nobodyâs perfect,â she noted. âIâm an overachiever in some ways and just like slow as molasses in other ways. I think I kind of needed to grow and mature and get everything kind of taken care of with everything before I was able to really deal with it.â
Latifah’s Sweet Mention of Her Family
Though Latifah is incredibly private, she did mention her partner and son in her BET Lifetime Achievement Award acceptance speech.
She acknowledged Nichols and Rebel publicly, calling them both âmy love.”
Latifah previously told E! News in March 2016, she was ready for motherhood.
“I’m little bit of a procrastinator,” Latifah noted. “I had some things to deal with. I had to get a lot of partying out of my system early in life for about 40 years. You know what I’m saying. I’m good now. I think I’m ready.”
She added, “I can’t say what God has for me, but you will see.” At the time, she told the outlet she previously thought about adoption.
“There are a lot of kids that need love out there. I want to be there for somebody. I got to get all this stuff and give it somebody,” Latifah said.
