Malcolm-Jamal Warner died from asphyxia on July 19, while on a family vacation in Costa Rica. According to police, he had been caught in a high current and drowned.

Raven-Symoné was only three years old when she was cast as Olivia Kendall on “The Cosby Show,” the stepdaughter of Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet), sister to Theo’s Warner. The young girl quickly formed a bond with her on-screen family, especially with her uncle. On Tuesday, July 22, she finally broke her silence on his death.

Raven-Symoné Says Goodbye to Her ‘Brother’ Who ‘Gave the Best Hugs’

The “That’s So Raven” star’s Instagram video featured a black screen with the words “I LOVE YOU” written in white. Underneath was a dove holding an olive branch. She captioned it with a Japanese emoticon symbolizing sadness.

“Words cannot describe the pain and sadness and surprise that I feel with the recent loss of MJW,” Raven said in the video. “He was a big brother, he was a beacon, he was one of the most multifaceted, talented men. So gentle.”

“And my heart and soul, and hugs and kisses go out to his daughter, and his wife, and his mother,” she continued. “He gave the best advice, he gave the best hugs, and his smile will always be a huge, bright [expletive] white smile in my head forever. I love you, and I know you’re watching over all of us now.”

“Bye, Malcolm,” she added tearfully.

Raven-Symoné and Malcolm-Jamal Warner Shared A Strong Bond

Because Raven-Symoné was so young when she was on the show, it’s unsurprising that she didn’t remember much. But she did remember how much she loved Warner, and the feeling was mutual. When the pair appeared on “The View” in 2015, they took a walk down memory lane together.

“What I always thought was interesting about Raven was, because she came on the show when she was three, four years old, being that young… Not knowing how to read,” he said. “So, having to remember what to say, when to say it, and how to say it was always really amazing to me.”

The former “The View” co-host told TV One’s “Uncensored” in 2021 that she had a special bond with Warner.

“I still have a great relationship with Malcolm Jamal Warner, and I don’t even know why, I just know that I adore him,” she said. “I can’t really tell you the genesis of it, but I’m sure he helped me when I needed it.”
