A new leak suggests that Capcom has at least two Resident Evil games in development, with Resident Evil 0 set to feature a number of new elements.
As Silent Hill celebrates two commerical and creative hits there really is a feeling that survival horror might be back for good. But the genre continues to be dominated by the one franchise that has always been a big seller, and you know its name.
Resident Evil Requiem is out next spring and everything we’ve seen of it so far has us very excited. But Capcom hasn’t announced any other spin-offs or remakes lately, with 2023’s Resident Evil 4 being the most recent.
Capcom has now covered all the most acclaimed sequels and it’s never been clear if they’ll do less well known entries, such as Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 0. There have been rumours of both though and growing evidence of the latter in particular.
Although there’s no new news on a remake of Code: Veronica, website MP1st has stated that their own sources confirm a remake of Resident Evil 0 is currently in development at Capcom.
It’s supposedly codenamed Project Chamber and one of the voice actors is Jon McLaren, who played Star-Lord in the underappreciated Guardians Of The Galaxy video game.
Resident Evil 0 was originally supposed to be a N64 exclusive but it was cancelled and eventually only saw release on the GameCube in 2002, before being ported to the Wii and then other formats in the mid-2010s.

As the name suggests, it’s a prequel, which starts off on a train and then ends in the Spencer Mansion from Resident Evil 1. It has two protagonists, that you can switch between at will: medic Rebecca Chambers, who was a minor character in the original game, and the all-new Billy Coen.
The first act on the train was pretty good, but the game got progressively less interesting as it went on and began to feel more and more like just a remix of the Resident Evil 1 remake.
That doesn’t make it particularly fertile ground for a new version, but it will be interesting to see how Capcom handles the mansion sections, since the first game is not part of the recent run of remakes and hasn’t had a genuinely new version since the GameCube era.
According to MP1st, there will be some changes to Resident Evil 0’s story, although the only example they give is from the train section, which will feature a conductor character not seen in the GameCube version. If you read the full MP1st article there’s a few more spoilers and a very obvious hint about a returning character.
Although there’s no new information about Code: Veronica, it’s believed it will be out first and is currently aiming at spring 2027. Resident Evil 0 is supposedly aiming for 2028, while neither are likely to be officially announced until after Requiem is released.
The most frequent source of leaks for Resident Evil is Dusk Golem, who was the first to talk about both remakes. He reacted to the new report by saying that it is ‘true’, including both the new story elements and the expected release date.
