Reverend Richard Coles was given an unexpected lesson in sex education by a fellow I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate, which left the Church of England priest blushing.

Richard, 62, made his way into camp at the tail end of last week, along with fellow latecomer Maura Higgins, 34.

They’ve now settled into the main camp nicely after reluctantly leaving the luxuries of their Jungle Junkyard behind, which has also led to them bonding with their campmates – and even forming some very unlikely connections.

During a conversation with podcaster GK Barry, 25, Richard spoke candidly about his sexuality, before Grace, whose girlfriend is footballer Ella Rutherford, made an NSFW confession of her own.

Richard, who is known for presenting radio programmes, writing crime novels, and appearing as a guest on TV panel shows, retired from clerical duties in 2022.

TikTok star GK, whose real name is Grace Keeling, asked him whether he found it ‘quite difficult being gay and doing that job?’

Richard replied: ‘No, not at all.’

He added: ‘I’ve never found it personally difficult at all. I’ve never given it a moment’s twinge of anxiety over whether God thought it was alright or not. That was fine.

‘But whether other people thought it was alright or not, well I’m happy to have that argument…’

Richard added of his sexuality: ‘Also, I was not the first. Sometimes I look at documents from the early church or the church of the Middle Ages, and I just think – so gay.’

In the Bush Telegraph, Grace reflected on their developing friendship and said: ‘I came into this jungle maybe not knowing who I would gel with or who I would be close with in here, and never in a million years if you told me that I would be getting on best with a reverend would I have believed you.

‘But, he is honestly… I think he might be my favourite person in here.’

Grace told Richard that she used to be religious and spoke about going to a camp when she was younger where men were telling her not to have sex before she was married.

She said that even at 13, she thought: ‘Well, that’s not gonna happen. I see my future, and it involves scissoring now.’

Richard was clueless as to what the term meant, before Grace informed him that it’s a ‘lesbian thing’, insisting he probably didn’t want to know anything further, which he was content with.

The topic of conversation swiftly moved along to Grace asking Richard if he could name the most interesting person he thought he had met.

‘I think I’m looking at her,’ he replied sweetly.

Viewers were very much here for their friendship and were left in stitches at Grace educating the Reverend on lesbian terminology.

‘GK Barry saying she thought God would greet her and thank her when getting baptised as she educates Rev Richard on scissoring as she says she wasn’t having men telling her not to have sex till she’s married at a Christian camp she went to the oversharing Grace’, tweeted Patty8862.

‘I really hope Grace gets Richard on the pod, that will be a hilarious episode’, added meganlouiiise_.
