Richard Branson Celebrates His Late Wife
Templeman turned 80 in July 2025, and just four months later, she passed away. When she died, Branson announced her passing in an Instagram post, informing his followers that she was his “best friend” and partner for over five decades. The couple married in 1989 and are parents to three children and five grandchildren.
Branson made another Instagram post on December 20, celebrating their time together and sharing three recent photos from Templeman’s 80th birthday. They both look so happy and healthy.Â
âToday marks mine and Joanâs wedding anniversary (coincidentally, it also marks Holly and Freddieâs anniversary, and the birthday of their wonderful twins – Etta and Artie!),â Branson shared. âI still remember mine and Joanâs wedding like it was yesterday. Iâm not sure what I was whispering into her ear when these photos were taken on her 80th birthday this year, but Iâm glad it made her smile! (swipe across).â
Fans showed their support in the comment section, flooding the post with loving messages. âBeautiful moments like this will last forever,â a comment reads. âJoan is definitely with you in spirit, just look for the signs.âÂ
âYou look like two kids Sharing secrets – I love it!,â another person shared.

Remembering Joan Templeman
The love shared between Branson and Templeman was so beautiful to witness, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Branson is understandably heartbroken and devastated by his wifeâs passing, but he has found some solace in the outpouring of love that fans and friends have shared.Â
âThank you to everyone who has shared such kind messages about Joan,â he wrote in an Instagram post on December 8. âOur whole family are so touched by the outpouring of love. It brings us great comfort, and it means so much to us all. Weâre the kind of family that now just want to celebrate Joan and the wonderful life she lived. I feel so fortunate to have met her all those years ago. She was just a joy to be around – as so many of your messages reiterated.â
